Replacing an i-cord tie on hat

I made this brain monster hat for ds, but I hate i-cords. I got 4" or so into it, and ripped it out. If I replace it with twisted yarn, what's the best way to attach it to the 3 live stitches, or bound off edge, that the i-cord is supposed to come from?

Btw, the decreases in the ear flaps confused me so much, too.

This thing has been sitting for over a month because I don't want to look at it any more.

I also hate icord. I would prob bo those 3 stitches and then loop 3 pieces of yarn through and do a braid. They also sell icord makers at hobby stores if you ever need one.

I agree. I braided ties for DS' hat, as described in this "Thorpe" pattern: http://throughtheloops.typepad.com/t...king-hats.html
