Almost graduated!

I think my 20 month old has almost graduated! She seemed to regularly stay miss-free at home, so this week, I've taken her out in public with panties. We've had two public misses (both my fault for not listening to her). I figure 2 misses so far this week isn't so bad. Well, she's had a miss or two at home, too, but still, not bad. Next week we're going out of town for 10 days for Christmas and I'd LOVE for her to not be in diapers, but I do know that new environments can be stressful and affect potty awareness, so we'll see.

I just thought I'd share some happy news. We did some ECing off and on when she was a newborn, but started ECing more full time around 5.5 months.

That's fantastic!!!

I'm curious, at what age did she begin to stay dry and tell you she needed to go? I love graduate stories!!

that is *awesome*!!!
we've been having great success lately too, but i've been scared to jinx it by posting
let's just say she hasn't worn anything but undies in about 3 weeks, and so far only had one away-from-home miss, and maybe 2 at home (all misses she said "pee" but had been distracted and wasn't able to hold it, and wanted her dirty pants off immediately).

She started letting me know when she wanted to go around 15 months I think. Maybe earlier. I'd have to go find my blog and look for it. I know the first time she told me in public and actually sat on the potty in a public bathroom was a few days before 18 months.

She's been completely dry the past 3 nights, too. We're using diapers at night, but apparently she doesn't need them. We'll still go with them for a little while longer, though. Bedsharing and getting pee everywhere isn't fun.

She had two misses today when we were at 2 different Christmas parties; she is really not comfortable with potties that aren't ours, you know? I wonder what I can do to make her feel more comfortable. I'll sit behind her to give her balance if it's one of those really elongated toilet seats. I've also found that using the larger stalls help. She gets claustrophobic in bathrooms. If I shut the door to the bathroom or stall, she freaks out and starts trying to get out and then refuses to get on the potty. The other day at the library I just left the stall open because no one else was in the bathroom.

my LO seems to have an easier time on a big potty if she's facing the wrong way (meaning towards the toilet tank vs away from). she can straddle it better and put her hands down to hold herself up. we just wash hands really thoroughly afterwards, which of course we'd do anyway. though if the public restroom is particularly gruesome i hold her like a baby in an EC hold. not her favorite, but she doesn't mind occasionally. heck, i've been known to hold *much* older kids that way in a gross bathroom i think the last time i did with DD1 she was probably 5 yo.

some people have good luck with those portable seat reducer things. none of my kids ever like it, but if your child will use it it's a nice option because if she gets used to it at home she can "take her potty with her" so to speak, making using strange toilets a little easier. cuts down on the ick factor on public seats too. i always wished mine would use it but for whatever reason they didn't care for it. sigh.
