So everyone here assumes that married couples do not have the same name because legally you can't use your spouses name unless you go through a legal name change which is a long and expensive process.
However, they always assume that the kids get the dads name... but are not too surprised when the kids have mom's name...

That's interesting! I had no idea!

I kept my name, too. DD and DD2 will have DH's name...he was pretty sensitive about that and is still sore about me keeping mine. Both of the girls have/will have my surname as their second middle name. A well enough compromise.
Somewhat OT, it's irritating me to get Christmas cards addressed to "Mr. and Mrs. DH". Every time I see one addressed that way I wonder why people can't just address it to DH and Elizabeth Mylastname. I feel like I need to do a PSA and let everyone know that, in fact, I haven't changed my name.
