Do not use this Calcium Supplement if Pregnant!

Solaray Cal-Mag Citrate

I posted a few days back looking for a Calcium Supplement recommendation. I know a few other expecting moms were also looking for a great Calcium Supplement. While, I didn't get many recommendations, I ventured to the Health Store and purchased Solaray Cal-Mag Citrate w/Vit D. These appeared to be safe for me to take, but they were not. I'm not trying to point fingers or blame myself, but I think these caused my Miscarriage. This supplement has at least 2 herbs that cause Uterine Contractions or Miscarriages. Although not my first loss, I have never experienced a miscarriage like this one, where I started having contractions/cramps and bleeding heavy. I started taking these vitamins Saturday, and started Miscarrying Wednesday. Perhaps just a coincidence? I really wanted to warn other Moms to Be about this product. Be careful and investigate ingredients prior to taking anything. I'm angry that the label doesn't say anything about not taking if you are pregnant! This $8.99 bottle of vitamins, possibly caused the life of my child. Please be careful Ladies!

Hey, mama

Would you mind sharing which herbs cause uterine contractions? I'm curious because I am researching Mag citrate safety during pregnancy.

Thank you for your post and I'm sorry for your loss.

The herbs that are for sure not safe are Parsley Leaf and Watercress Leaf. It also has Alfalfa Leaf and Dandelion Root, that I believe are ok, I am still looking into the Alfalfa leaf.

Also, Everything that I read points to Magnesium Citrate not being safe while pregnant, or safe up to 100mg a day. I was taking 500mg a day with Solaray.

I think this is an important discussion because Mag Citrate is recommended all over the place as a safe laxative for pregnant women. If you find more resources on Mag citrate I'ld love if you could share.

BTW, my mag citrate (Solgar) does have a pregnancy warning but just one of those generic "if you're pregnant or nursing talk to your medical provider before taking..."
