Spotted Dick - enlighten me please

Thread Starter
DH and I were grocery shopping the other night and stumbled across a can of Spotted Dick. Of course, us being an juvenile as we are, were rolling on the floor and it has been the subject of jokes since.

From the can, I gather it is some sort of cake in a can?

Anyone here familiar with this?

TIA!

p.s - I'd normally google this but am at work and dick is not deemed an appropriate search parameter here apparently

According to Wikipedia:

I first heard of the stuff in Harry Potter- IIRC it was mentioned at one or more of the Christmas feasts when JKR described the table adn dishes in detail.
