My 15 month old dd is getting a doll for Xmas. Just wondering what u like. One friend's dd called The waldorf doll mama's doll b/c thats who liked it. She prefered the plastic one.

my mom had a waldorf doll made for my DD last Christmas. She really doesn't play w/ it much. I got her the Happy Green Bee doll http://www.happygreenbee.com/shop.cfm?c=5&p=17 b/c it was on sale & she LOVES her. The long arms & legs make her really easy to carry around & make her fun to dance w/ .
Here is a pic of her w/ her dollie. she loves to carry her on her back (like I carry DD).

We have two Waldorf dolls and no plastic dolls. My dd rarely plays with her waldorfs but LOVES the plastic ones others have.

I made a really lovely doll for DD, but she only plays with her Corelle one. I was kind of hurt, but then I rationalized it by deciding I don't want grubby lil toddler hands on my lovely work or art anyway! (Hmph.) She particularly likes that its eyes open and close. DS is getting one this Christmas, because he's always after hers.

Yeah, I guess I like the idea of a waldorf doll. But I have fond memories of my own baby doll from childhood too. So we'll. I keep checking for responses. Thanks

DS has both. Sometimes "Pink Baby" (the plastic headed one I got at TJ Maxx for $7) gets the attention. Other days, "Olly the Dolly" (10" Waldorf Doll I sewed for him) is the star best friend. Other days it's BaBa the Elephant.

He is getting another waldorf doll for christmas this year (I had it made to look like him) and I'm also working on a heavy baby for him to help him stay in bed all night. I hope to have it done for Christmas, but I'm not sure it will happen.

Interesting to read the replies. My daughter has a cloth baby doll that she never played with much. Her grandma got her a coroelle that can go into the bath and she just loves that doll and plays with her constantly. I've looked at getting her another baby doll that's a little bigger for a gift after her baby brother is born and I am scared to spend the money on the cloth dolls that I think are great for fear she won't play with them. So, it's probably going to be another coroelle.

I've never bought a Waldorf doll as we aren't a Waldorf family, and since we aren't really into Waldorf I couldn't justify spending the money on one (and I am so not crafty enough to make my own). However, my dd's first doll was a simple cloth doll, and she was totally ignored, my dd had zero interest in playing with her. We recently bought her a corrolle doll and she loves it and plays with it all the time. It looks much more like a real baby than any fabric doll I've seen, and I think that's important to her. I won't be buying any more cloth dolls even though I like them, I feel it would be a waste of money for my family. YMMV

I, as an adult, love the waldorf dolls.
Most children I know like their doll to have at least a plastic head though. I don't know why that is. Maybe the plastic seems more 'skin' like to them and that why they prefer it?
My son asked for a Corolle doll - so thats what I got him! (as much as I loved looking through all the waldorf selection! hehe)

We have both and my DD has no preference. She loves all her babies equally.

And she's reallllllllllllllly into her babies. I love it, so cute!

But I can see how a cloth doll would easily be ignored. I really like the idea behind Waldorf dolls but little kids really do like detail. They just don't see the artistry and philosophy behind such a doll.

DD adores her Corelle dolls (my mom got her a second one that can go in water, since she loved her first one so much). She has a cloth doll and a cloth Raggedy Ann doll that she takes out occasionally but mostly ignores. She pulls out the Corelle ones pretty much every day.

Ok, I'm not a mom but I have to add my vote for a Corelle doll. I'm 20 years old and have had my corelle doll Jenny since I was born, Jenny was breast fed for probably the first 6-7 years of my life, dressed appropriately for the weather, rode in a rf carseat, still sleeps with me, and is on my lap right now. Actually I just told my mom that I was dressing Jenny for the ride home and she told me her clothing was the least of my concerns because I don't have a proper carseat for the ride home.

Perhaps I'm a little old for all this but I have great memories with my doll and somedays she's still a huge comfort.

Corelle.

I love the idea of cloth dolls, but DD is obsessed with plastic baby dolls at other peoples houses so she is getting a Corelle doll for xmas. We have a few cloth dolls that she totally ignores.

I like Waldorf. My daughter had the infant style Waldorf doll while a baby and a really nice little girl Waldorf doll before she was two. She never showed much interest in either. She first encountered a plastic doll in her baby signing class (about nine months) and she was enthralled. Then, at about 18 months, we were traveling when she encountered another little girl pushing a plastic doll in a stroller. My daughter nearly mugged her.
So, we bought her a baby Corelle (the kind that you can bathe) and a small doll stroller, and they were nearly inseparable for more than a year (hasn't shown much interest in her lately, though). A very wise Waldorf adherent once told me that you should respect the love and passion a child has for a doll, no matter what it is made out of.

ETA: My inlaws recently brought her a plastic baby doll. I don't know the brand, but it had all kinds of electronic gimmicks like crying and drinking a bottle and wetting. My daughter was terrified of it and wouldn't touch it. So, choose carefully.

OMG-so funny!

When DD turned 1 last year, a friend gave her the Fisher Price twin babies-a boy & girl. I wasn't into them & let my niece take the girl home with her but totally forgot I had done that...actually thought we lost her or something. We were over there 2 weeks ago & DD found her & immediately showed signs of recognition, interest etc. My niece is a year older & hadn't been playing with it at all so everyone said to just take it back. DD has been bringing her everywhere & sleeps with her. She really hasn't ever shown that much consistent love to any of her other cloth dolls (except she likes her Haba bigger girls-but doesn't cuddle with them or ask to bring them places-she pushes them in their pram & feeds them). The boy twin has had a stain on his outfit for a long time which upset her. So I guess this plastic, long lost, girl baby is what she had been looking for her whole life. What can yo do? They have opinions too & sometimes you just gotta go with them.

I am getting her a Corolle next month to give her when DD#2 is born as a gift from her new baby sister. I feel better about the Corolle-while it has vinyl, my understanding is that it is at least BPA/Phthalate free vinyl.

I have a Haba doll for my son and some other cloth dolls - he doesn't bother with any of them except to sleep with. At daycare however, he apparently totes the plastic-headed babydolls around in a cradle hold, feeds them in the toy highchair and puts them to bed!

I got this Peppa Cuddle doll for my DD on her first B-day. I'd wanted to get her a Waldorf doll but I ended up short on money and time. It was fairly expensive as far as dolls go for us (I'm super cheap ) Here is a picture of her with it on her birthday. That was the first and last time she paid it a bit of attention. I carefully selected it for features like natural materials, fair trade labor, and wool stuffing (for comfort scent transfer) and it sits completely ignored among a slew of stuffed animals in her room. She prefers the cheap "Little Mommy" dolls I'd gotten for $5 a piece last Christmas. I don't get it.

I would go for the Corelle.

Okay, I can't be the only one who read the title and went, "When did Corelle start making dolls!"
