Well, I certainly wouldn't buy my 2yo a glass doll that shattered! Are you crazy?

I know, I can never keep the spelling straight.

I don't know, my Corelle plates get dropped all the time and they have held up pretty well. Maybe a Corelle doll wouldn't be such a bad idea!

My DD (almost 4) has 2 Waldorf dolls, one of which I spent hours upon hours sewing for her 2nd birthday. She also has a few Madame Alexander plastic head dolls, and the Fisher Price twins which friends gave her for her first Christmas. The ONLY dolls that are EVER carted around, played with, truly loved, are the Fisher Price twins. She adores them. She doesn't like that the Waldorf dolls have hair that "tickles" her. She is only now beginning to show the slightest interest in the Waldorf dolls. Go figure. I think part of it is that the Waldorf dolls are "kids" to her, whereas the plastic dolls are "babies" that she can nurture.

IDK... I think Fisher Price puts something in the plastic. There is something about those dang things that just draws kids toward them.

I saw this thread and had to pop in.

What interesting responses!

I absolutely agree!

My dd fell in love with a lot of different dolls and stuffies for short periods of time over the years, one of which was a Corolle but her favorite of all time was a Waldorf Playmate named Lily from Hearthsong. My dd received her for her fifth Christmas and she played with that doll every day until she was 11 or so. She still keeps it in her room.

It was fairly expensive as far as dolls go for us (I'm super cheap ) Here is a picture of her with it on her birthday. That was the first and last time she paid it a bit of attention. I carefully selected it for features like natural materials, fair trade labor, and wool stuffing (for comfort scent transfer) and it sits completely ignored among a slew of stuffed animals in her room. She prefers the cheap "Little Mommy" dolls I'd gotten for $5 a piece last Christmas. I don't get it.

I would go for the Corelle.
Too funny, we actually got that same doll in blue for DS for Christmas. He opened it early so he's had it about a week. The first couple of days he seemed kind of annoyed by this stranger in the house, especially when he caught him sitting next to Teddy. He'd snatch Teddy away like "Teddy! What have I TOLD YOU about strangers!" lol! Then suddenly he became completely enamored with the little guy. He sleeps with him which is a total shock because he's never shown interest in any sort of lovey thing besides my boob. DS has a cold right now so he totes the doll around with our battery-op snot sucker, sucking out its pretend boogers, and also tries to give it Tylenol. I honestly like the doll so much myself that I kind of would like one for me. It's so sweet to cuddle with!

I thought the same thing too I actually had to Google it. I've never heard the term before in my life!

I am getting her a Corolle next month to give her when DD#2 is born as a gift from her new baby sister. I feel better about the Corolle-while it has vinyl, my understanding is that it is at least BPA/Phthalate free vinyl.
FYI- Only the ones made for 18 mo and under are BPA/Phthalate free vinyl

DD got her 2nd corolle doll for christmas today and really liked her. Last year she got an 11 inch and this year 14.
I like what E. V. Lowi said!

Seriously? Where did you find that info? Would that include Calin & Tidoo? They are in the 18+ mos (Mon Premier) group...

That's exactly what dd thinks. I made her a Waldorf doll for her first birthday and she only occasionally plays with it. She says the hair is too long and she isn't a baby. I've thought about redoing the hair to make her more baby-like, but it took SO long to make her hair in the first place! A couple years ago a neighbor gave her a $5 plastic headed Wal Mart doll and she LOVES that doll. I have replaced the cloth body on it twice now. This fall she fell in love with a friend's Corolle doll, so we got her one for Christmas. She is in love all over again. It's one of the ones that is for newborns, but even though dd is 3.5, she thinks it's the greatest thing ever. So if she isn't going to play with the doll I made her, at least she has one that is soft and cuddly and made of higher quality materials than her other plastic headed baby.

They would be fine since they are for 18+ mo. I had called Corelle directly to verify since I had read about it online.

DD has both Corelle and Waldorf dolls and she rarely touches the Waldorf ones, preferring the Corelle. I love the Waldorf dolls myself though

okay so we went with the waldorf doll.

So far she likes her. My mother liked her better than the corolle doll. http://www.rosiehippo.com/p-1242-baby-its-me-brown.aspx

She has a cloth diaper which is nice. We spend a lot of time changing her teddy's diaper so this should be a hit.

That is one super-cute doll! I'd love to know if they bond ... maybe there's hope for us yet.
