Teen wants to make natural bath/body/cosmetics. Help please?

My 13 yo dd wants to try making natural bath and body products and cosmetics at home. I would love to get her a book or two on the subject and possibly some sort of beginner's "kit" or basic ingredients to get her started. I have never done this sort of thing, but I'm generally handy both in the kitchen and with multiple crafts, so I think we could handle it fine.

I tried looking around online, but am overwhelmed by the volume of stuff available and don't really know where to begin. So I thought I'd drop by and ask the mamas here.

Can someone suggest a good book to begin with? How about a place to find reasonably-priced, decent-quality ingredients? Is there someplace that carries an affordable "starter assortment" of essential oils? Say you had $75 (max) to spend between books and ingredients, what sort of "package" would you put together for a 13 yo girl?

TIA!

This is an AWESOME book! It has everything in it too and it's very useful for all kinds of things from deodorant to foot soaks, lip balms, bath teas, oils, cleansing grains, moisturizers, tooth powders, perfumes and more! There is a chapter in it especially for teen products as well.

You can buy a copy from www.mountainroseherbs.com and all the supplies you might need too. (tins, bottles, oils, butters, herbs, etc) though the book might be cheaper via Amazon.(I bought my copy from MRH though it was years ago I bet they still carry it because it really is one of the best books out there!!)

OP -- If you buy from MRH, do so thru the link here on MDC, and MDC gets a portion of the payment. I always purchase thru that link as it supports this board.
On the upper left corner, there is a link on this site that says "Buy Herbs" - it's a link to MRH.

Rainbowmoon - thanks for the recommendation, I just placed a hold on it at the library.

I have this book and it's a bit more difficult to use for a newbie. Also note it is mostly creams and lotions. Just an FYI!

http://ultimatemoneyblog.com/make-yo...ipe-collection There are recipes here for natural toothpaste, tooth powder, etc. This is where I found the sugar scrub recipe I just posted about. There's a lot of info here on how to make a lot of stuff at home.
