I am also taking 5000--in Wisconsin. I think it is ok...if it upsets your stomach maybe cut back or try with food???

You can ask your ob/midwife/doc to do a simple blood test to check your level. Then you would know for sure how much to take. 5000 iu seems like an ok dose, but you may need even more (or less). Your level should be between 50 and 65 (optimal levels). I think mine was about 54, so I am continuing to take 4000 iu daily, plus the 400 iu in my prenatal, and trace amounts in my calcium supplement.

You could try switching to a different brand as it could be the additives that are upsetting your stomach. Different brands of vitamin D put different things in with it (binders, fillers, etc.) I vaguely remember reading a study in which they were giving ultra high doses of vitamin D and the side effects they did find were from the fillers.
