why? wakes after 40min at bedtime?

Since she was 4months my dd has gone to sleep around 7. Then she wakes after 40 min. I nurse her back to sleep. Then she wakes in another 40 min to an hour. Sometimes she just wakes once before i go to bed- sometimes 3 or more times. she usually wakes when I come in to sleep or dh does. we cosleep.

I guess i tolerate this. Most times I feel okay. But sometimes it makes me angry and I feel like should (haha) get 2 or 3 hours in the evening baby free. She is 15 months old now.

Any suggestions?

I don't know why, but my dd does it most of the time too. She usually needs help getting back to sleep at the 35-45 minute mark for naps too.

The nights she does sleep from 6:30-9ish, I know are going to be ROUGH nights because then she's up ALL the time. If she's up 2-3 times before 9 or 10, it's generally a "better" night. It doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, it's hard. It wish she would sleep for long stretches. I have found she will sleep for 1 1/2 hours in the stroller or car seat for naps. She used to wake every 40min w/ naps too. The pantley method said to wait and response right away to awakenings and naptime would stretch. That never really happened. Oh well.

My DD (9 months) always wakes up about 45 minutes after she goes down for the night. It's not hard to get her back to sleep though, she just needs to nurse a little.

My best guess is that she's waking up because she's between sleep cycles, or maybe because she has to pee after all that nursing to get to sleep (and if I ever manage to EC at night, I guess I'll find out if it's the pee thing )!

She usually keeps waking up about every 45 minutes, until she rolls over onto her stomach. Then she'll sleep straight through until I get in bed (when she latches on again).

I'm sorry you're not getting enough baby free time at*night. I hope she starts sleeping longer for you!

I'm pretty sure it does have to do with sleep cycles. My son does the same thing, only he wakes up refreshed and ready to boogie after that "nap" (right about when I'm ready to fall down in bed, alas).

The timing is totally based on sleep cycles. I wrote a piece for my still-under-construction website about it here http://researchmommy.wordpress.com/2...-sleep-cycles/

If you read the "our story" on my site, I talk about my son waking every 45 min all night at 6 mo old. After lots of digging and lots of help from mommas on MDC, I figured out it is allergies and nutritional deficiencies causing his inability to digest certain foods properly. The pain or discomfort was great enough that he couldn't transition easily through the sleep cycles. Here we are at 17 1/2 mo old, and he only wakes up 2-3x a night, and still in increments of 45min, just now extended to 3hrs or 4 1/2 hrs.

We call it the 45 minute wake up here!!!! 90% of the time ds wakes up 30-60 minutes after he falls asleep for the night but usually it is 45 minutes on the dot. I figure he just struggles getting over the first sleep cycle.

But, yeah, I get the frustration. Sometimes when I hear him wake I find myself feeling SOOO angry - especially when it stretches to an hour - I figure we made it past & so I get settled doing something.

I must tell myself a thousand times a night: this too shall pass.

Wish I could help, but my son is almost two and he does this a fair number of nights still. It's a rare night when I put him in bed and he stays there, asleep, until I'm ready.

Maybe your daughter gets hungry easily. That's is my speculation. Because from what I know, infants wakes up, most of the time because they are starving.

My DD does the same thing.. 40-45 minutes after we put her down, about 90% of the time.. Very occasionally she will just roll over a little and resettle on her own.

About half of the time she will wake up by tossing and turning and a little whining, but the other half she just starts screaming right away as if in pain or scared by a bad dream. She usually resettles in ~5 minutes (often without wanting to eat), but those 5 minutes of screaming kill me. Do your LO's do this too? I can't tell if this is normal or if I should restart her reflux medication or look for another cause...

Many thanks for any advice
