I forgot to mention in my post above that my older son napped for 30 minutes until he was 9 months old... and then naturally started taking a 90-minute nap without any help/work/etc. from me. 
When he was 23 months, I moved him out of the crib into a twin bed, and he started taking THREE-HOUR naps.
I could live through this cat-nap phase again if I knew he'd turn out like my older son, but I worry he won't!
