The last two US i had were really uncomfortable and the last one was downright painful. there is a spot in the right lower quadrant that hurts every time that thing is rolled over it. yesterday i had to ask the tech to avoid to let up. she seemed surprised and told me to mention it to the doctor since i guess it's not too common for people to complain. when i mentioned it to the doctor she said that i was pointing to the round ligament and she didn't seem too concerned. there was a knot in that area that went away a few hours later but i felt horrible for the rest of the evening. ugh... i'm dreading my next US. anybody else experience this?

I've never had that, but it makes me wonder if you need some sort of adjustment or massage or something. I try to see my DO (doctor of osteopathy) regularly during pregnancy to keep everything in line. Are you getting any exercise? It might help. As long as the doc doesn't think it's your appendix or anything, and you don't feel a second opinion is warranted.

Sore spots actually are common, and they don't necessarily have anything to do with the round ligaments. Sometimes the baby gets a foot, knee, elbow or whatever in one spot for an extended time and keeps pushing and bumping that same spot over and over, until it just gets irritated and painful. If you google something like "sore spot on uterus" you should find something about it. My midwives also both said it was common, when I asked them about my sore spots. I think my baby has been in nearly the same position (transverse, head on right, feet on left) for many weeks. I have a really sore spot on the upper left that comes and goes based on where baby is right that minute - and if the baby is on the spot, it feels like there's a knot there. I wouldn't worry about it.

None for me this time, but with DS I very much remember being uncomfortable from laying on my back (I get faint feeling and just generally feel gross when I lay on my back when pregnant) and having some very sore spots...it felt almost like the roller was pressing my skin/muscle between the baby's head or something and the roller...it pinched and almost felt like they were rubbing a bruise. Hard to describe.

Yes, in exactly the same spot. I also had a lot of pain there when the midwife was trying to find the heartbeat with the fetoscope, and she didn't seem concerned at all.

I hated u/s when I was pregnant w/ DS. I would lay there in agony at times and DH got to look at the pretty pics. I mentioned it to the midwife, she told me to tell them not to press so hard and it was like magic! I was amazed. Some techs just don't realize their own force.

The tech jammed the wand in so hard around my hips a few times during our big u/s that I had a little bit of light bruising the next day.
