Can i reuse simple syrup?

I made a batch of candied orange peel and made simple syrup with 3 cups sugar and one cup water for 4 oranges. The syrup left over was about a pint and it was rich orangie and tastes great.

But I need to make more candied orange peel so can i reuse this mixture at all? can i use this and half of the previous recipe made fresh? it's just this was organic sugar and organic orange so i don't want to waste it.

I know you can use it to make drinks ( i'm taking it to a new years party) and top ice cream but is there anything else? i thought of giving it as a gift in baby food jars to folks too. But how long does simple syrup last?

any help would be appreciated.

In the fridge it will last for ages. It may recrystallize on you though. I have a jar of it in the fridge from the same thing, and it crystallized. I used it on pancakes/waffles/french toast, to sweeten coffee, or you can even use it in place of honey in many baking recipes.

I would think you could reuse it. We usually have a bottle of simple syrup around in the summer when we are doing iced coffee and iced tea, we leave it out on the counter although we go through it all in less than a month.
