The Challenge-Are YOU Up For It?? - Page 4

http://mnmlist.com/100-things/

I've been slowly working on this for a few weeks. I thought I was kind of an extreme minimalist until I actually wrote down everything I had! It was like 160 or so. Including everything individually, except books (just haven't counted those yet, but it's like 30 books). I don't know what number I've got now, but it's very fun.

23 items of clothing out of youngest boys dresser.

3 pair of my jeans that don't fit properly

a UGLY towel someone gave me for christmas this yr.

two gift bags

29 items wow. And I didn't even really try hard. They are in bags in the car to go to Goodwill tomorrow.

I'm at 144/150 and just done for the moment.
We start back up after my youngest goes to sleep for the night. We have family coming in on Monday afternoon, so today & tomorrow I need to get really busy!

Amazing how easy it is to fill up a bag. Way to go...And thanks for starting this thread, mommaof3boz.

I did get rid of 5 things today, but then we acquired some more belated presents. So I'll have to count how many we got today, and then get rid of five times that many on top of the five for tomorrow!

I assume the "get rid of 5 things for every 1 thing you bring into the house" doesn't count, like, groceries, as things you bring into the house.

Gray's Mommy - Wow!!!

Okay, I'm not listing everything that I got rid of. When I get rid of stuff, I have to do it fast or else I'll think of some off-the-wall reason to keep it. So, here's a general list of what I got rid of today:
about 15-20 books
a handful of old toys
empty CD cases
mail sorter
a garbage can that the dogs get into really easily (how silly to get rid of a garbage can while decluttering)!!
kids clothes

so I'm counting this as 6/150 - oh I've got a long way to go...

I think you should count these individually! Getting rid of books is really hard!
Good job sky*hawk

I'm in. I need to do this badly, if only to get in the habit.

So far:
1 stretched out nursing bra
1 kids game
22 items kids clothes
bottle washer
1 pr kids shoes
sunglasses
1 toy
(2) large stack magazines - I'm going to count this as 2 per the 10 sheets of paper rule = 1 item rule above, only I'm using it for magazines - there are at least 20 mags in this pile but I don't feel like counting past that

30/150

tho some are in a bin to take to goodwill and I will take those before the end of the challenge

Groceries are consumable. And being good stewards of the earth we bring in what we need and will use. SO they do not count in the one thing in five out. For that its "stuff", non consumables, space takers.

To each of us my New Years wish...

We will create for ourselves and our families a home not a house.

And we are on our way ladies.

I'm just seeing this, but I want in! I'll have to start tomorrow, but since I'm planning to tackle my paper monster, that shouldn't be a problem.

I just bought four pieces of maternity clothes today...great, I guess that means that I have to get rid of thirty things tomorrow, to account for the four pieces of clothing, and today and tomorrow's five. Fun (I think )!

1-2- Garbage bag full of faux tree branches for railings
3-12- Bag full of Christmas decor
13- Wieless router
14- Some boxes that were cluttering our storage closet
15-16 2 old bottles of herbal remedies
17-30 toys back to my sisters as they were on loan.

OK, I counted up the belated Christmas gifts from yesterday, and there were 11 total. So I have to get rid of 60 things today! Yikes.

Agreed.

Here's what I got rid of yesterday:

1-20. electronic items - trash (I finally convinced DH to go through a box of his old stuff.)

21. window clings - trash

22. old power cord - trash (got the replacement one weeks ago)

23. outdated poster - trash

24. broken cat toy - trash

25. page of stickers - trash

I figure Dec. 26 - Jan. 31 is 37 days, so that's 185 things total I need to get rid of.

So I'm at 25/185, or 13.5%.

You are correct in that I didn't count this week. I figure with it being January we will have sick kids or be sick or miss days here and there. So that's how I came up with five a day for january. However, if you want to add on extra items then THAT ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

12/26 - 4/5 (notepad, toy coin, frozen rabbit to IL's, CD)
12/27 - 16/6 (CD, 15 catalogs)

total = 20/150

31- broken bathroom scale

oops, I didn't know we could count things we threw away.. I'm going to start counting as of now.

I want to give it a try!

I've never done a MDC challenge, but I'd love to try. My mom was actually very good at getting rid of things-although she loves to garage sale, so things seemed to come in and go at a rapid pace. I have a few challenges...my MIL is a hoarder and she loves to bring her things here--but I've been working with her on not bringing plastic dishware etc anymore for "health" reasons. Now if I could get her to stop bringing clothes and toys I'd be in good shape. I am also a teacher and although I am not teaching now, I still have lots of materials that need to be weeded out. I am an avid freecycler though! I could really use this!
