I am single parenting my 17 month old son who is very active and runs me ragged everyday trying to divert his attention. I am so worn out from diversions! He is also starting to intentionally do things that I don't want him to do or that are dangerous for him or the family pet. It doesn't help that we have just moved our whole life across the continent and into my parents' homes(we're halfway thru a 4 month stay). I know my parents think I am too soft on him and that I need to be using more discipline, ie. time-outs, yelling no all the time and expecting him to eventually get that he can't do the things we're telling him not to.
Any book recs that can help reaffirm and enrich my ability to parent my feisty little guy? I am especially looking for books that might have specific techniques or explanations on how to deal with young toddlers.
