Saxon Math Vs Horizons Math ??

Thread Starter
We currently use Horizons math program (k and 2/3) and I'm happy with it.. but our public school switched to Saxon math this year and my friend, whose son is in PS, has been raving about it..

I'm curious.. if anyone knows.. how does Saxon Math compare to Horizons math (disregarding any religious aspect of Horizons..purely as a math program compared to a math program)

We've tried Right Start and Singapore and didn't find them a good fit for us..

This came up in the Gifted forum today; someone there thought Horizons moved more quickly than Saxon but used a similar methodology.

I have no personal knowledge, though.

That someone would be me!! LOL!

They both spiral (from what I gained from their catalog, I think Saxon builds concepts a bit more slowly). I have Horizons sitting in our school area and it seems like beginning 1st grade material towards the end. Actually on other HS forums I've read, the consensus is that Horizons is at least 6 months or so more advanced than most other math programs including Saxon. And it does move quickly. Oh, duh...you didn't need all that extra stuff! You are already using Horizons!
