VBAC in New Jersey

Hi ladies!

I just found out that I'm pregnant with my second child. I'm adamant about a vbac this time around.

I'm not finding many supportive ob/gyn's in New Jersey. Anyone have any recommendations?

Midwives are not covered in my insurance plan, so that's pretty much out of the question.

I'm in Bergen county, if that makes a difference.

CNMs are not covered by insurance?? That's very unusual. Are you sure they're not just excluding CPMs?

I'd ask in FYT.

Most CNMs in NJ do hospital deliveries so they should be covered by insurance. CPMs only do homebirths and not all insurances will cover homebirths.

You could try Dr Judy Banks at Morristown. As far as VBAC doctors go, she is one of the best. Dr Winsome Parchment at Mountainside is also VBAC-supportive (and was voted a NJ Top Doc!). Avalon midwives at Morristown Hospital will also support VBAC (they are CNMs, not CPMs).

You could also try Dr Dicker at Valley but I believe he wants continous monitoring and doesn't want you to go much past 40 weeks though I've heard good things about him.

Dr Mohr at St Clares attended a VBAC 2 years ago for a woman I know. She went to 41 weeks and he was pretty patient the whole time. He did an episiotomy though (yuck) although St Clares has recently been trying to bring their episiotomy rate down.

You might also want to post in the NJ tribe area since there are quite a few women there who have had VBACs or are planning them.

Good luck!
