So, does anyone have a recipe to make apple butter out of apple sauce? I know I saw a couple last year when I was making apple butter, and this year I have lots of apple sauce but never did get around to making apple butter.. and was thinking about making a bit up, but now I can't find those stinking recipes!!

I make apple butter from applesauce every year. I will look up the recipe and post it for you.

Here's the recipe I used. I was looking for the same thing, because every year I make a big batch of applesauce and wanted to turn some of it into applebutter.

Found my recipe. It is from the Ball Blue Book.

Apple Butter

To 2 quarts applesauce, add the following:
4 cups sugar
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. cloves

Mix thoroughly, then simmer until mixture is thick enough to round up on a spoon. Stir frequently to prevent sticking. You can add water if it gets too thick.

Sweet Cider Apple Butter

To 3 quarts applesauce, add the following:
2 cups sweet cider
3 cups sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

Make as above.

FTR, I have never added that much sugar to either recipe. I usually use about half the listed amounts, and it always turns out just the right sweetness. I prefer the sweet cider recipe, but both are very tasty. I make a huge batch in the fall, and cook it down in a big pan in the oven (set at about 250F-300F). It always seem to turn out, no matter what I do.

Good luck!
