low milk production, pumping, dom????

hey mamas! up until now dd and i have been doing pretty good with me supplementing her. she is gaining, content and doing great. i have been taking dom since week 7 and she is now 3mths old. so, here is my question, she is demanding a ton lately and i don't have enough due to insufficient glandular tissue (i make about 15-20oz daily), so does anyone else pump and then feed it to the peanut? she gets fussy at the boob when there isn't a ton coming out at once and then she devours 6oz by bottle. i started taking my dom every 6 hours, 3 tabs, i nurse her until she starts fussing too much, bottle her and then pump and offer that to her. sounds like a lot, but i do it a few times a day. we used to use a supplementer but with dd1 in the mix it became too much thanks to her distractions. so, i'd love to her what other mamas do!

thanks! if there is an easier way, i'd love to know about it.

Nursing-bottling-pumping is easier than using a supplementer? Really?
Honestly, I can't think of anything that will help with impatience with the flow of the breast because of flow preference other than a supplementer.
Were you using a Medela SNS? I found it a PIA. The Lact-Aid is much better.

you haven't met my 2 1/2yo. she makes tending to dd2 impossible some days. so, YES, the supplementer can be a challange when dd1 is all over the place. if i only had one little one to tend to it would be a breeze, but with two it is tough. put it this way, i have done everything possible to produce more milk and make this whole experience less stressful than last time and at this point i am just happy that dd2 is gaining, healthy and happy.

thanks for the support!

thank you! that was awesome. i actually did that today before i read your response just because i was wondering if having her feel a bit satisified prior to offering the breast would calm her enough to enjoy bf-ing.

great article! thank you!

It almost sounds like bottle preference to me. She's too impatient for the breast, but downs a 6oz bottle. The plastic nipple is easier/faster than your breasts, so that may be a factor to her impatience at the breast. Babies will take the easiest route to fullness.

I just wanted to add that as she gets bigger and stronger she'll likely get better at emptying the breast on her own.
I pumped after every feed (after supplementing with a Lact-Aid) until weaning off the pump when my son was five months old and I stopped getting any milk because he was emptying the breast on his own.
The other thing I'd suggest is feeding smaller amounts of supplement more often - 6 oz is a lot - using the lowest-flow nipple and doing paced bottle feeding.
So hang in there, mama.
