High pulse?

What would cause a high pulse rate in a resting, sitting at home, pregnant mama? My pulse is upwards of 130....I haven't been doing anything! I'm sick with a cold or something though, could that be why? I wouldn't have even noticed but I can feel my heart pounding even though, again, I'm just sitting here. Its really odd!

You might want to get your thyroid levels checked? That is the only thing I can think of. If you are hyperthyroid (its common for thyroid hormones to fluctuate during pregnancy) it could cause a higher pulse rate and palpitations. Good luck.

were you watching something on TV or listening to music? That could raise your heat rate, although that is a bit high. You said you have a cold, are you coughing? That usually raises mine a bit.

I had this just yesterday at my midwife appt. She theorized that I'm dehydrated. My pee was also a little dark, and I've been having a lot of BH. She said your pulse goes up when dehydrated, and prescribed a gallon of water per day until things settle down, since it's hard to "catch up" on water once you're dehydrated when pregnant. She said I could also drink electrolyte drinks, or one Emergen-C packet per day.

I'm also upping my cal/mag intake and eating bananas. I've read those can help with the BH. I've also read they can help with heart palpitations.

Mine does that when I'm sick and has been worse since I've been pregnant. Early on I had to make a trip to the ER for fluids because I couldn't stop vomiting and they said dehydration can raise your pulse rate, so I'd make sure your getting enough fluids while you're sick.

My pulse is high like that during pregnancy. I've had three kids and it's happened every time. No problems, just fast. It goes away for me after delivery. I've never had a complication at all from it. I just try to ignore it and go on with my day.

Same for me, though mine was at about 110. My blood pressure is always fine though so mws aren't too worried. The naturopath got me drinking more, taking extra cal/mag/d and also taking a homeopathic blend for the nervous system since I sometimes feel mild and random anxiety and edginess over nothing at the same time.

If you're anemic it can also make your pulse a bit faster than normal (especially if you're severely anemic as your heart needs to pump more blood in order to deliver the same amount of oxygen).

Thanks for all the responses! I think the last poster hit it on the head though...I know I'm plenty hydrated, I'm not coughing so thats not it, but I also know that I'm most likely anemic. I just started craving ice, which is my tell tail thing for anemia. I'll start taking my floradix again and hopefully it'll go away.

This is my 6th baby and I've never had this happen before though, its so weird! I've been anemic with every single one of them too! The only time I felt like this before was after I hemorrhaged with my 3rd-for months afterwards my pulse was high and I could feel the beating sooo strongly. I know I was extremely anemic then (I had lost about 2000 mils of blood)....maybe that means I'm more anemic now than I have been previously. Though just last week my blood test came back normal so it would've happened FAST.

Anyway, back on the floradix and hopefully this will chill out!
