That is so funny! I'm glad that things are better. I guess he just didn't like the crib. Well, congrats on figuring that out... that shows a really good Mama instinct, IMO.
That sounds like the perfect amount of sleep for a baby that age. So many people think that kids can be healthy and happy on the same amount of sleep as an adult (or less), that I think it's the first thing a lot of people who know a bit about childhood sleep needs ask whenever they hear about any sort of behavioral issue. But, of course, it doesn't actually solve everything! But it sounds like you figured out the issue.
FWIW I have two friends whose babies would only sleep on the floor. It made the transition to a bed so much easier! One of them spread out those foam floor-mats (the puzzle-like ones, with letters on them?) which made a slightly softer surface, and really easy to clean.

It's also because when trying to sleep at night they are calm and things are quiet all around them, whereas during the awake hours they are busy playing or doing things and the house is loud and they don't notice the pain as much.
