Looking for cloth wipe recommendations...

Here's what we'd like in a wipe:

no polyester content
tagless
stays flat (doesn't roll)
thin enough to get in the nooks and crannies
unbleached
holds up well to washing

We've been using cloth wipes all along, but the two main types we have, we're not thrilled with, and would like to find something we like better when we re-stash for the new baby.

Spam away!

You could always make your own from plain cotton or an old cotton sheet.

I use Imse Vimse and really like them, but they have tags. Or you could just cut the tags away. Good Luck!

I went to the towel aisle of a discount store and bought bulk pkgs of washcloths. They are 100% cotton, thick terry they were much cheaper and sturdier than any "cloth wipe" I have seen. In fact I usually give some when Im invited to a baby shower. The edges dont "curl" like some other baby wash cloths (due to thickness?) we had received plus the loops in the terry do a great job or cleaning. We just tossed them in with the diapers. I bought ours over 6 yrs ago and many babies and diapers ago and still have them although they have been repurposed to cleaning cloths. Bought them at a big box store and maybe spent $10 per dozen. I have seen organic cotton washcloths as well but back then it wasnt as easily found.

Here, too.

I use homemade flannel wipes. The flannel does need to be sewn or serged around the edges, but no curling or tags involved. They hold up well to washing - the color fades, but they are still strong and absorbant.

I got some from a WAHM on diaperswappers that meet all those requirements, except that I have no idea of the polyester content. She has different fabrics you can choose from, though.

Her name is jpicasso on DS and here's her hyenacart page:

I have lots of cloth wipes. My favorite ones are the Bum Genius bamboo wipes.

Ive been through a ton before i found what I like. I had a wahm make me one side flannel one side sherpa and I have 30 of these. Use mostly for poop. And I have 30 organic bamboo velour wipes (mine are goodmama but bought second hand) and these are perfect for sore bottoms, nose wiping and face washing.

This. I spent a small fortune trying all kinds of wipes. Cotton, flannel, velour, hemp, etc.. I ended up buying the 16 pk of discount washclothes for like $4 at the store. They work great? Why? Because they are terry and all of those little terry fingers are GREAT at grabbing poo! Cheap and easy, I really wish someone would have advised me to go the cheap route instead of getting sucked into the vortex of having to have cutsie looking wahm wipes. FWIW, the wahm wipes are nice, BUT the problem is that unless they were terry, they have a tendacy to just smear things around. The terry washclothes are great, you just need ONE, that's it. They are big enough that they do the job, and grab everything that needs to be wiped off, they wash up wonderfully, wear wonderfully, and better yet, they are super cheap.

Before ds was born I got a bunch of baby washcloths to use that were serged and had no tags - they work great. A month or two ago I sewed some more wipes for myself that are flannel on one side and terry on the other and I LOVE them - I think there are lots of moms selling them on hyenacart

At first I made some flannel wipes at home (cut up, no sewing). I cut up an old t-shirt when we ran out one day. The t-shirt wipes ended up being our favorites. They are softer and don't shed as much lint as the flannel wipes.

I'm making mine out of flannel sheets we have lying around that won't fit our bed. I sewed around the edges and haven't had curling yet despite washing the batch once already to prep.... it'll be interesting to see how they work out since this is kiddo #1 for us!

Aren't the cheap washcloths a little rough? All of the cheapies I've bought (I use them quite a bit in the kitchen in lieu of paper towels) have been really harsh. Where are you getting yours? I've wanted some softer ones.

Personally I just hit the remnant bins at stores and grab flannel and serge them together. I also recycled several of our baby washcloths (the thin ones w/trim that curl so badly) by trimming off the edges then serging them to flannel. I have a TON of wipes and I've probably spent less than $5 on them.

After a few washes they seem to soften up quite a bit. Never been an issue with my kids though regarding wipes. They prefer the cloth to the disposable ones and so do I. Personally, I think that hemp is kind of rough unless it has been washed a lot. The washclothes I get are a meijer, but it's a store that is basically only available in the midwest. It is pretty generic looking. I've seen similar bundles of washclothes at Target. Usually they are tied up with some cotton ribbon and come in all white or a combo of colors.

I think cheap washcloths are rough.

My favorite wipes are from quilter's nappies on hyena cart. cotton velour and flannel rock.
