Snap Pliers ?

My mom just gave me the snap pliers made by Dritz as a gift. I know I've heard before that they don't hold up with diapers, but I figured I'd give it a try. I put snaps on 5 of our flannel RRPs. Seems to be okay so far, but that's just with me snapping and unsnapping them, not on my son. He is wearing one right now though. Anyone use the Dritz snap pliers successfully? The snaps are 5/8"

Are those the pliers you can buy @ Joanns that do metal snaps & eyes? I didnt have luck if those are them but I couldnt get the snaps on correctly & it seemed like the metal of the snap was to weak. Hopefully it was user error & you have luck!

Yes, she got it at JoAnn's and the snaps are metal. I think I was able to get them in because it was only through 2 layers of flannel. I will see how they hold up through the washer and back on DS again. So far, it's working though. They seem a lot weaker than the ones I put in some of my other diapers using someone's snap press. I feel like one of these times the diaper will just rip apart from the snap.

Well I hope you have luck! Mine I used to put snaps on mama cloth I made myself and a couple still have the snaps on but most have ripped off, so frusterating! I got a snap pliers for resin snaps online for 30$ I will try and look threw my email and see where I got it from and get back to ya they are amazing now everything that takes buttons (clothes, bags) that I make I use the resin snaps.

I have heard of that yahoo group, I haven't done any yahoo groups before though. Maybe I will give it a try. Thank you!

We mostly use pins, which I really don't have a problem with, but my few diapers with snaps and aplix are nice for when we are out and about. (Or for those overnight diaper changes which will be coming soon!)

I tried this as well, for diapers and mama cloth, and found it frustrating. The metal was weak, it was easy to bend the little spikes the wrong way and before they were in the right place, and if you mess up on the placement you have to add more snaps. They fall off in the wash or pop out when you try to unsnap them. Or the metal socket bends and the male part of the snap no longer fits snuggly. I found pinning my RRP's (also two layers of flannel) much much easier. And cheaper. It took about a week of practice, but now I pin like a pro..and my husband is getting good too!

I prefer the pins for the most part too. But DS is not always willing to lie still for diaper changes and for when we are away from home, I like changing him standing up better. I have not mastered pinning and standing, squirming toddler...yet. I have so many RRPs, that if the ones I tried with snaps do get ruined, it will be okay. My mom is a diaper making machine and they keep coming!

Off topic - but she made up one newborn sized pocket flannel (in the style of RRP), it is soooo cute!!! Probably because it's a girly flannel (and tiny!), and we don't have much of that. If this baby is a girl though, I can only imagine all the cute diapers I'll be getting
