Staying at B&B with 8 month old and cosleeping?

Hiya mamas,

We've got a long drive ahead of us for the holidaze and DH booked a B&B room that's our halfway point. At home, we use a natural mattress to cosleep and I guess I feel weary of sleeping on whatever bed they have there. Does anyone know if offgassing mattresses are poisonous overtime or could one night do harm? Sleeping separately is not an option, as it would be incredibly traumatic for DS. Am I worrying for no good reason?

Personally, I would not worry about it at all. There are probably more dangerous fumes or substances from the long car ride/fuel/highways/car interior than from the mattress, LOL

Have fun!

Most people sleep on them all the time. I'm sure one night would do absolutely no harm at all. You'll probably get more off-gasing from the carseat than the mattress! At least the mattress would have a mattress pad and sheets....!!!!!

We just got back from a family vacation and I have the same "ick' factor as you about mattresses in hotels. I've co-slept on one with DD when she was 5 months old and to be honest it was the toxicity of whatever washing detergent they used more than the mattress that grossed me out. She smelled like "fake flowers/chemicals" from the detergent (and so did I, but I could shower each morning) which I did not like.

This time we rented a cabin, and I brought my own sheets with me. It was much, much better this time. Still a toxic mattress, but it is only for a few nights, KWIM? Having our sheets from home made me feel much better. No more "downy softener sheet" smell on the baby....

We also brought our Tres Tria which is a godsend because it is so portable!

It'll be fine.
I would ask though, you did make sure the B&B allows children, right? Most don't.

Yep, I asked. The owner said she's had many babies and toddlers stay there.
Thanks for all the advice. I feel better. We've tried to make that trip in one shot before and let's just say it was NOT pleasant with a strong willed baby who is less than fond of car seat confinement.

Am actually looking forward to this, although will be bringing my own sheet! That detergent is a double yuck factor for me!
