Ive read a lot about storing bm in glass containers to keep it longer and to maintain freshness.......where could I find glass containers? Ive thought of stage 1 babyfood but I don't just want to buy it and waste the food.

What about using glass baby bottles if you are going to store in the fridge. I know that medela makes them.

Babies R Us carries Evenflow and Medela glass baby bottles. We've been using those for the past 8mo.

I use the glass evenflo bottles and *love* them. They don't float when you put them in hot water to warm up, they don't fall over when you put the breast shields on them to pump. They're a little harder to balance when I'm feeding both babes at the same time, but all in all I really really am glad I picked them up.

Arent those like 4 and 8 ounce bottles? Arent they pricey for trying to get a stash of breastmilk stored?

Evenflow bottles are fairly cheap 6 for $11 (4 or 8oz), the Medela ones are expensive 2 for $16. There is always glass canning/jelly jars 12 for $8 at the grocery store, but you will have to transfer to a bottle. I would get the 8oz or 12oz jars (be sure it says ok to freeze). The canning jars will stack better than the baby bottles.

When DS was a baby, I purchased a lot of "baby juice" in bottles "individual serving" bottles, fed the juice to my older kids, then used the bottles for breastmilk storage. Those were nice bottles to use, because they're a little smaller than standard baby bottles. Most "4oz" bottles can really hold 5-6oz, these little glass ones hold 4oz up to the top- nicely holding about 3oz of frozen milk (you need to leave empty space at the top of a glass container when you freeze liquids in it). 3oz is just about right for a feeding!

Yes the Medela ones are more expensive but the Evenflow are a fairly good price. It would be more $$ for getting a stash but worth it if that is what you want.

The ones I have are 4oz.

Not meaning to hijack a thread, but did you freeze the baby juice glass jars? I would love to know if those things don't explode in the freezer.

Another glass bottle question: How does it hold up with warming up? Does the glass get too use steam/warm water to warm up a glass bottle from the fridge?

Always leave at least an 1" - 1 1/2" at the top of each bottle. If the jars are smaller at the top (like most bottles) start the measurement below the screw line.

Another cheap way to get glass for storing/stashing milk in glass would be canning jars (mason jars). You can get them second-hand and buy new lids - or they're pretty cheap new too (at the local hardware store a case of 12 pint-size jars is about $7).
