what type of yarn do you prefer for playfood?

I'm getting ready to crochet some play food and I'm wavering between acrylic and cotton. It seems like acrylic would be more durable and easier to clean, but I prefer the look and feel of cotton. What do you like for play food and why? Do you have a favorite brand?

TIA!

I've only sewn dc's playfood so far, some was acrylic felt and some was needle felted w/ wool. They have no preference over either, although the wool does sometimes leave fuzz in your mouth when eating it.

Some cotton yarn is washable.

Now that I've come over to the side of natural fibers, I just don't like working w/ acrylic. It hurts my fingers and feels scratchy. But it is affordable.

So I say go w/ what you like working with. I haven't had a reason to really wash our playfood. (although the dang dog has been eating the wool food )

Geez, what a vague and unhelpful answer.

I would hesitate with unnatural materials if they're gonna go in someone's mouth. I have mixed feelings about cotton. The cheap stuff is stiff and not fun to work with and the expensive stuff seems to come apart too easily and not really be durable. I love wool. If you are worried about it felting, you can always get superwash.

When it comes to kids stuff I use acrylic because it's tough and cheap.

I try to use natural fibers whenever possible. I just made a lot of fruits and veggies from Knitpicks wool of the andes. It is pretty cheap and comes in lots of veggie colors. I stuffed with natural wool batting as well.

my favorite is alfa for playfood. its fuzzy and wooly but superwash and doesn't wear at all. i knit some cellery, carrots, ect when my middle daughter was not yet 2 and it still looks the same and she just turned 4. the colours are great for fruits and veggies..i just kn it an eggplant with a purple that i do not see mentioned on their website and it looks perfectly eggplanty.
