breastfeeding through illness- feeling enpowered

I am recovering from pneumonia and I made it through 6 days of 104 fevers and breastfeeding. This time I did not get the baby sick. I am so happy. The first couple days of being that sick I did not want to feed him, but by the third and the fourth day, I felt proud and happy knowing that feeding him is the best I can do for him. When I went to the doctor on day 4, he was surprised by my condition, I was strong and in good mind for having a fairly serious pneumonia and that high of a fever. I had to be strong for my son. He was the first male that was happy to see me breastfeed. He told me that by breastfeeding DS I was protecting him from this serious illness that could have landed my sweet baby in the hospital. He prescribed medicines that were compatible with breastfeeding and now the pair of us are doing much better. I feel so happy that I was able to protect my son and that I had the strength inside to do it.
