Are all flannel sheets pretty much the same?

I need a set but money is tight. There is a good deal on a set for $15. Are all flannel sheets pretty much the same quality? TIA!

How warm are flannel sheets? I love the way they look, but DH and DS are both hot all the time. I'm worried it would get way too hot for them. We live in San Diego, so not exactly winter weather here.

Not all flannell sheets are the same , the same way that all cotton sheets are not the same. Thread count, cotton type etc all matter.

I have some thick cotton, 5 or 6 oz flannel sheets I bought from LL Bean about 15 years ago that we use ALL winter long. We bought them on clearance after the holiday when they are the cheapest. They are still going strong and are SO soft and cozy. Cheap ones will wear thin quickly and will take longer to soften up.

If money is tight the $15 will do in a pinch but for true warmth and quality I would invest in some thick durable ones.

Thanks HBM.

The flannel sheets I had when I was living with my STBX were the nice ones, very thick and warm. He wont give me a set They were too big for my current bed but they would have worked in a pinch. Oh well

The ones I had were always really warm and cozy. I only used them when it was really cold outside, I have other sheets for the warmer weather.

The biggest difference I've noticed (among less expensive flannel sheets) is to watch out for those with printed patterns. Sometimes it won't affect the quality of less expensive sheets, sometimes it does and they really don't wear very well at all. I've had good buys though in under $20 flannel sheets, so if you're going to pick them up go for something plainer.

yeah, I agree they are not all the same. Some are very thin and get pilly and rough rather quickly. The good ones are thick and get softer and softer....they also wear well.

LL Bean definitely great ones, I agree! I've heard good things about Lands End too. I do have a pretty nice set from overstock that I got a few years ago though.

RE: color/pattern....my own 2c on the matter is to stick with lighter colors. My nice set is a beautiful deep red - very wintery and nice looking BUT they leave red lint all over my other blankets and my light colored pajamas. It does NOT come off easily! I'll stick with light colors in the future

We don't ever sleep without flannel sheets. Why would you deny yourself the snuggly goodness that is good flannel?

In the summer they are heavy enough to be our blanket.. we fold the quilt back.

I have 3 sets of flannel from Land's end that we have had for 7 years. They have the elastic all the way around the bottom sheet.. such a good thing.

I love love love love the sheets.. and LE has them on sale right now. King sets for 85.

I prefer the cheaper, lighter ones, because the nice, thick ones get too hot.

We use flannel sheets for late December-early March, though, and I'm in Georgia. Our average high this time of year is probably 50. Lows that dip below freezing get a "winter weather advisory", so ymmv.

About how much do a set of sheets from LL Bean cost when they are on sale? I really want to get a set for all of us. (So two twin beds, one king bed.) I don't even need a top sheet, but the fitteds would be lovely.

fisrt markdown is 20-30% of retail. If you dont care about color, etc try their clearance area. There you kind 50-70% off but might have to take bright orange or some kind of unpopular print. The only flannel on sale now is a comforer cover and they are 30% off.

I think there might be some on sale this week at target? Or maybe it was last week? Anyway, I am a total sheet snob and I bought some at target a month or two ago. They were $15 or $20 for a queen set, and I am very happily surprised at their quality. I don't know if each set/color is the same, but the ones I bought are a sage green color, and they are very thick and haven't started pilling yet.

Yep it is Target, I am heading there this week to get some, I think.

I have a set of the Target ones, got 'em on sale for $12 or $15. They're fine! Not as soft as my nicer Costco ones, but still warm and cosy and pretty. Definately worth the price and they'll last long enough for me to get tired of the pattern:-).

Okay so my verdict so far is that the $15 Target sheets are actually more comfy than my previous expensive sheets. I have only washed them once, though, so it could totally change. But so far, so good! I don't even want to leave the bed in the morning because it is soooooooooooo cushy!

We use our flannel sheets in San Diego the majority of the year. I would say from November to May. OK, so that's only half the year.
We are near enough to the coast to have May Grey and June Gloom, so that's definitely a factor.
