With DD1, we dealt with thrush for less than a week when she was very young. No biggie, and surprisingly the nasty nystatin must have helped (though I wouldn't use it now).
Earlier this year, when DD2 was about 10 months, *I* battled with thrush on myself for 10ish weeks. It started with DD2 having it in her mouth just a bit, but we got rid of that in a few days. Then I went in for oral surgery and went on abx afterwards (FTR, I will NEVER EVER go on abx again!!) and it came back with a vengeance, and just as we were getting rid of it I went BACK on abx because one of the sockets got infected.
Anyways, we eventually got rid of it after I started a huge routine...GSE (after every feeding, moistiruzed with coconut oil once dry to heal/prevent cracked nipples, and also 3x/day internally), garlic 2-3x/day, olive leaf 1x/day, a B-complex vitamin 2-3x/day, and cutting out carbs/sugars. Oh, and probiotics of course, which we take daily anyway, but I started taking 2-3 more every day. We had used gentian violet after the first round of abx when it came back but I didn't feel like it was effective enough to make it worth using it again later on.
Now there was a time this summer when I thought it was coming back so for a few days I started up that routine again (minus the olive leaf since I was pg) and it never got any worse.
But now it's back.
My typical symptoms- breasts itch and burn, my areolas were sort of shiny and my nipples pink, and it hurts (worse on one side) when either girl nurses (though neither show any signs of it...which is typical for us, apparently...once again it's just me!). I've started my routine back up, but this is so frustrating. I can't figure out where it came from this time. I'm 30 weeks pregnant, too. And I'm constantly nursing so a cleanse isn't really a possibility. It doesn't seem to make a difference what my diet is like (for example, I can have "bad" days- or heck, weeks- and consume a lot of candida loving foods, and never end up with thrush...or, I can be doing well, like lately, eating more TF style foods, lots more coconut oil in my diet, and get thrush!!!).
Where is it coming from, and what can I do?? Like I said, we all take probiotics very regularly. My diet is hit or miss, especially lately during the pregnancy, but overall I'm aware of what I eat and the possibility of thrush (since it's not like I enjoy dealing with this!!), etc.
I REALLY want to get things under control and figured out before the baby comes. It makes me really nervous to think of dealing with nursing a newborn, a 2 year old, and a 4 year old, AND dealing with thrush. Miserable...
