I gave birth to my twins at home on Friday evening. The labor was fine but the actual birth was a whirlwind that only lasted 5 minutes to deliver both babies.
Baby #1 was born and midwife noticed there was too much blood so we clamped and cut and she asked me to get out of the tub. I couldn't though as I was still contracting and the second baby was right on her heels.
The first placenta detached and while #2 was starting to crown, it slid in next to her head and it had to be pulled out of the way to get her out. Baby #2 came out placenta and all with one push. I immediately got out and went to the bed.
Baby #1's placenta was very pale, and mushy in color. The midwife said that we were very lucky I went into labor when I did because the baby wouldn't have survived another week on that placenta. It actually looked like it had been through a meat tenderizer on the side that attaches to the uterus. We took pictures (kinda graphic) but I would be willing to post them if anybody cares to see.
Anyway...we knew there would be an increased risk for bleeding so when it was not slowing down, the first tried pitocin (3 different shots) and then resorted to the cytotec. I had 2 different suppositories of cytotec about an hour apart, I believe. There may have been a bit of retained placenta from baby #1 but I am not having any uterine pain or fever so I don't think that anything still remains to be causing my symptoms. I lost quite a bit of clots in the toilet at first and whatever might have remained probably came out then.
I have been having horrible back pain since late into Friday night and Saturday morning but it has increased to an all over body ache. All my joints and muscles are extremely sore. Could this be a reaction to the cytotec. I have no actual idea of the dosage I got but the side effects of the drug seem to fit with what I am experiencing. I just don't know how concerned I should be other than the fact that I am miserable and if anyone else has ever experienced this.
I did talk to my midwife this morning but the thought of a drug side effect had not crossed my mind at the time and I didn't ask her specifically about it. She was going to call me back later today and I will ask her about it also.
