Well, all I can tell you is what I have experienced. There are a lot of very knowledgable women on this site that can help. I did "part time" EC with my 3rd and it has been wonderful. I got an immense amount of information from this site just reading various posts. you can also google "infant potty training" or "elimination communication" and different sites will come up. I think diaperfreebaby.com is one that is good.
When my dd was about 3 months old I would just lay her on the floor or in her bouncer on a towel without any diaper and when she went potty whether it was pee or poop I would hum. When I heard her go potty in her diaper I would hum and I would place my hand over her bottom area in the bath tub so I could feel when she peed, (b/c all babies will pee when put in the warm bath so I knew it was a great chance to cue) and then hum. I did this for a few weeks and then I held her over the potty or sink and then hummed and she would push out. She had learned to cue off of my humming. We did this for a couple of months and honestly at the beginning I had to make an effort to keep her diaper off to catch times where I could hum. But if we were out, I would put a diaper on her. I would potty her a few times a day and if it worked, great, if not, fine too. I just wanted to keep a connection between going potty somewhere else besides a diaper.
At around 5 months I bought a BBLP (baby bjorn little potty) and sat in her on it and hummed. She went potty and I did this every time I pottied her. She learned how to sit up on her own at 5.5 months so it became very convenient to just put her on and give her a toy or two and let her sit and do her business b/c soon she would go without me humming. She is 9 months now and will almost always hold her poo until i put her on the BBLP. She will pee in her diaper, but I try to put her on the potty when I think she has to go. Probably once an hour or so and then after all her major feedings. You can buy the potty at babies R us and diapers.com, amazon.com and other places. It has been wonderful for us, but that said, now I have the problem of her cueing off the potty. So if I try to hold her over an adult potty she won't go even if I hum. She has to have her potty. So I keep a BBLP in my car and if we're out and I can potty her I do. It's not that big of a deal to us, but I know a lot of women have their babies better trained to go wherever.
I hope that helps. Just keep a relaxed attitude about it all and don't stress out if your baby doesn't get it or has regressions. It has been a lot easier than I thought, but just took a bit of time to get it started. And best of all we haven't had any diaper rashes and all my friends are so impressed with her!
