Would these eggs be bad?

My Mom dropped some eggs off last night (from someone who has their own chickens) and I left them on my table in the foyer all night! They would have been out from 6pm-10am. It's not cold in the foyer, so I wasn't sure if they went bad or not. They felt room temperature when I touched them this morning.

How do you tell if eggs go bad? Do they just smell? When I was in Cuba they left their eggs out in a basket in the kitchen...so maybe my eggs are ok?

Thanks!

I'm sure they're ok; I've left eggs on the counter overnight many times and never had any go bad. Especially fresh ones as opposed to supermarket eggs....I figure before refrigeration they were left out until they were used. I always test for freshness by putting them in water, if they float to the top: not fresh.

I would say they are ok. Especially if they were fresh from the farm.

Usually, I test my eggs in some water to see if they are good. If they float, they are bad. If they sink, they are good. If they are on-end, they are getting old but still okay to eat. I don't know if this works for "warm" eggs or just for "old" eggs.

In many places it is normal not to refrigerate eggs, they are often sold off the shelves and are kept on the counter...

since your eggs are coming right from the chickens I really wouldn't worry, especially if they haven't been washed yet...

I remember not being able to find the eggs in an Italian grocery store cuz I was looking in the refrigerated section. Instead they were at the end of an aisle by the meat counter, completely unrefrigerated.

They are probably fine.

I would say they are totally fine, but I never refrigerate eggs.

Eggs didn't start being refrigerated in the US until... late 70s or early 80s when the FDA (USDA?) decreed all eggs must be kept refrigerated. Before that they were just kept on the shelf.

I don't refrigerate my eggs, period. Refrigerator space is at a premium, and eggs don't rate.
