Everytime I go to my dr. or into L&D for an NST they gimme the same lecture about...if I feel funny, have vision changes, ctrx, discharge etc. to come in. In this lecture it is usually geared towards the tendancy that my BP runs high sometimes (although its been very good for a few weeks now) and they are watching me for Pre-e. in this lecture they always mention to call if Ihave heartburn that wont go away, but I dont understand what this could mean??? That being said, i'm pregnant, I get heart burn frequently regardless of what I eat or what tums I take etc. So i'm a little embarrassed to ask this, but how the heck am I supposed to know when its heartburn that wont go away and might point to some issue (but what issue?) and when its just normal pregnancy heart burn? I'm afraid to mention my frequent heartburn now for fear that they will diagnose it as something that its not and i'm trying sooo hard to get a VBAC so I dont need any mis diagnoses ya know? So does anyone know what it is exactly that they want me to watch for?

You probably should mention it. Heartburn along with other symptoms of pre-e could "possibly" (but, definitely not always) signal the development of HELLP syndrome. IMHO, your care providers need to know this. Pre-e is nothing to mess with. They can give you meds for severe heartburn if you can't find a natural remedy. I had severe heartburn w/DS (also had pre-e)....so bad that I couldn't drink water w/o causing problems. Good luck to you!

Thanks! At least now it makes sense as to what the heck that is about. I'm going to mention it at my next appointment, I dont think its HELLP mainly because I dont have any other symptoms at this point. My BP has been consistantly 130/80 for about a month or so which is very low for me, no protien in my urine, no swelling, and as for the heart burn it is frequent but it does go away eventually so I think its just typical 3rd trimester pregnancy stuff. It wont hurt to mention now that I at least know what i'm walking into by doing so! Thanks again!

Regarding the heartburn, I think what they mean is, if you're feeling heartburn and you take a Tums or eat some almonds (or whatever you normally do) and you feel better, it's normal heartburn. If you do your thing and nothing changes or it gets worse, then it's nonresponsive heartburn, and that could be a sign of something more serious going on. Generally if your body doesn't respond to a treatment that's worked in the past, something's going on!
