Best HS find under 10$?

For fun and information....

What is your best find for educational purposes that is under $10 or so?

Mine is a world map. I have it posted on the wall and we consult it regularly. I love it.

I dunno. We're just starting out. Although, I did manage to find a nice shiny poster map of the US at the $Tree. I was pretty excited about that. We've already got our $1's worth out of it. My DD loves to ask me where this place or that is. (Although the "distance" factor still eludes her. )

The $1 store often has posters on colors, vowels, etc, we've gotten a few from there.

Costco carries workbooks for under $10.

Singapore workbooks are great and cheap.

I've gotten some great stuff from the Target 1 spot. Educational placemats, letter and number bingo games, animal fact cards, dinosaur fact cards, etc.

Melissa and Doug placemats are very nice too, we have a presidents one. range around $3-$4.

Leapfrog dvds on sale for under $10 have also been a hit around here.

Probably the most used under $10 item around here has been a bird book from Waldenbooks that plays over a 100 different bird calls.

I love looking on Ebay personally

I've found some great Walodrf books and toys for under $10, with shipping, all in great condition! It took me awhile to FIND them, but the results were worth it...I think we got Heaven on Earth, a little wooden fairy house, and something else I can't remember

We aren't fully Waldorf but I do love the toys + books and rhythm ideas they offer.

Ohh, we have a great world map from 1965 that we got at a rummage sale for a buck.... it's huge, like 5 feet across, and make of canvas. I love that map.

We also got a game called State to State at a thrift store once for about a buck, and Rain adored it... I think she could name and locate every state in the US by the time she was 6 or so just because we played it so much... and considering that I'd always been a bit fuzzy on everything east of the Mississippi, I learned a lot too!

The Usbourne Encyclopedia of World History. I picked it up for ÂŁ2 second hand! My children absolutely love the book and have spent a lot of time looking through it. (even my 2yr old likes looking at the pictures) It is one of those internet linked books. I never know where to look for interesting stuff online! The book has shown us a lot of interesting websites.

Another one of our favourite things we found in a box in my parents attic. It is a map of Scotland that shows where all the different clans come from and castles and battle sites etc. I think it might be older than me!

I have a cheap whiteboard (from Ikea maybe) and that gets a lot of use too.

Lyra Ferby colored pencils. We have had one set of the short ones for over two years. My kids fight over them. Paper, Scissors, Stone has them for $9.50 for a set of 6.

The giant stack of construction paper my mom bought the boys. I think it was from Costco.

White printer paper.

Story of the world books. They make a great jumping point. Just read until the kids are interested and then check out a ton of library books.

I found a set of Christian Liberty Nature Readers at the thrift store. I love these. They are wonderful. I think they retail for less than $10 bucks each, though.

I second this.

Also, the huge box of workbooks (Mostly brand new, mostly the sort that are normally in the $15 range) we found at a garage sale of a former tutor for $5.

Well, all together they were more than $10, but the many, many, many wonderful books we buy at thrift/consignment stores for $.39 each. We go so often that the ladies who work there will put aside interesting books for us. I've found Usbourne Internet linked encyclopedias, beautiful old story books, and even an entire science curriculum there! And once we got a brand new, in the box microscope, a really high quality one, for $1.99!

I found a metal globe at a flea market last summer for 5$. I looks to be fairly recent (like 1980's forward), is the size of a beachball on a stand and is in such perfect condition that you'd think I just bought it new.

The weird thing is that all the place names are in English, German, and Korean Kanji. I wish it had them in spanish too, but considering how much new globes actually go for I can't really complain about this one
