breastpads??

hi! i was hoping to get recommendations for non disposable ones. i HATE the disposable kind, but those are the only ones i've found that will hold all my excessive leakage.
for non disposables, i've tried some wool ones (lana) and also some organic cotton with hemp inserts-- i loved the feel of the wool but they just couldn't hold it all.
i do NOT want to buy another box of the throw-aways. TIA!

I like these. They're thick enough that they provide a little bit of counter pressure to help stop the letdown. Are you feeling letdowns yet? A lot of people don't feel them right away. It's a little tingling sensation before you start leaking. If you feel that, try pressing on your nipple gently, and you'll leak less. Get lots of nursing pads and change them often to help you stay dry. You won't always leak this much.

I like the Gerber ones from Target. I'm 10 months into breastfeeding and still leak a lot, so I wear them everyday.

I made my own with a layer of white PUL, two layers of hemp jersey, and a layer of bamboo velour. They're not super absorbant, but could easily be made thicker. And the velour next to the skin is really soft, and keeps them from feeling so wet. Check out etsy, there are lots of nursing pads listed there, I bet you can find some nice ones that would handle heavy leakage and you'd be supporting hand made as well!

I just cut up some of the 451 flannel receiving blankets we had into 4 or 5 inch circles and sewed 5 or 6 layers together with a zigzag stitch on my sewing machine. They work great for me and I am still leaking a ton at 4 months. The trick I've found with flannel is that once they are soaked they don't work very well again until they are washed (even if I rinse them out and let them dry). So I made 10 pair (honestly, we had more flannel than we knew what to do with), and always use a fresh set.

I've yet to find any reusable pads that could handle my leaking the first few months. I've found that if I use the arm thats crossing my body supporting the breast the baby is feeding on to also press against the nipple that the baby isn't feeding on (near the elbow of that arm) it helps some. I hope that made sense. Then I only leak a lotif I'm really full. My dd is 4 months and I hardly leak at all anymore and have stopped wearing pads at all, I know it took longer to reach that point the first time around though.

I have some La Leche League ones that are thick and all cotton. No weird layers or anything. They had them at my grocery store, of all places, but now they have run out and I can't find them anywhere else. I still went through a BUNCH a day (until about 4 months). That is why I bought ALL the store had.

I have some Medela ones that feel nice, but soak through too fast. They work okay now that my LD has taken a chill pill.

I'm actually a big fan of my new LilyPadz. They're not the cheapest way to go since they only last about 2 months with proper care and cost around $20-$25, but they're the only thing you need for those 2 months, are way low on the leak factor when you put them on properly, plus you can wear them with pretty much anything. I am big enough to begin with, I hated using cloth because they were so bulky and made my shirts fit weird, or if they were thin I leaked straight through.

I've tried a ton in the last few weeks and I leak a lot! Favorite so far are Blue Penguin's. They're thinner, but still absorb a lot, don't leak through like flannel, and the company / customer service is great!

I just wanted to suggest something totally different-- if you are like me and only leak when the baby is nursing, you could look into the Avent breast shields and milk savers. I slip it into the other side bra right before I nurse and it catches the milk.

It's reusable, I can save the milk, and they never leak all the way through.

i wish

i wish i only leaked when she was eating! i leak at random weird times and sometimes wake up to a wet spot on the bed. i can feel the letdown, but it happens at odd times too. sometimes i leak just because she cries (and that's been often lately) -- i may try to sew some. i made one pair that actually kind of works but i got mad when i made it because i broke two sewing machine needles in the process. they do work, though. thanks for the suggestions.. i don't know which ones i'll try, i think i will try looking on etsy though. <3

I can't believe nobody has suggested these...

Seriously the best breast pads EVER! I finally found out about them with my last baby. I will also add, I typically hate wearing wool but these are butter soft!

I use the Lansinoh cloth pads. But with my first ds, I leaked like crazy for months. I finally found something that worked for me that was suggested by a mama on MDC. I cut micro fleece circles out and sewed them on as a backing for the cloth pad. I still leaked but the fleece did wonders in keeping my clothes, sheets, bras dry.

By the way those with strong let downs the Lily Padz may not very effective. They really didn't work for me at all, but then I also had fairly flat nipples which may have added to it.
