Can anyone explain something about this crochet pattern for me

I think I understood it right when it says that it's crochet in the round. But once you get around the circle, it has you single crochet one, then turn
and go back around. I have made one glove and its great, but I just dont understand the point. It gave me a seam on the glove that I think could just be avoided by continuing around the circle everytime. Did I read wrong, or am I missing something? I'm a newbie crocheter. I have a hard time understanding patterns often, so I'm trying to figure out what would happen if I just continously crochet around. Would it turn out wonky in some way I just dont know since I'm not experienced.

I appreciate any input as I'm about to start the second warmer and I'm thinking about just skipping the seam part. (for one thing, my seam looks terrible).
I have no problem with them looking different. It's for my use and I'm not a perfectionist.

TIA!

Edited to add, the seam is on the side of the wrist, so you cannot see it in the picture at all, but's its def. there. I'm sure I wouldnt mind so much if mine didn't look so bad.

Maybe this was a typing mistake on your part, but it doesn't say to "single crochet one" and turn, it says to "chain one and turn". If you single crocheted instead, I imagine that would indeed make quite a bumpy seam.

I think it tells you to go back and forth because you're working in "back loops only" to create a textured effect - it wouldn't look the same if you worked continuously without turning.

Yes, that is an error on my part. I meant to say chain one which is what I did.
Thank you for explaining it to me. I will try to figure out how to make a smoother seam next one.

Here is a seamless sc tutorial that may help (you might need to adapt it slightly for the back-loop-only ribbing).
