Clothes for chunky toddler?

I am having such a hard time finding pants to fit my DS. It seems that the bigger the sizes, the LONGER and thinner at the waist. My DS is a chunky 28 lbs and 32 inches tall.. But he has really short legs. I can't find pants big enough at the waist that aren't a mile long on him. I can roll up most jeans/jean type pants.. but sweatpants, etc I cannot do. I really don't want to pay a taylor to hem my 16 month old's clothes!

Any suggestions? We've tried Target, Old Navy, and Walmart. Thanks.

DD is the same. She's currently in 24months/2T clothes when it comes to waist size (she's not even 1 yet!) but she keeps stepping on the pants. Everybody kept telling me she'd thin out when she started walking... umm, yeah right! She's running and climbing on everything but is still just as chunky. I'm convinced it's because she nurses A LOT and isn't eating hardly any solids, who knows?

What we've been doing is always put babylegs over her pants, which holds the cuff in place (and helps to keep her warmer in the winter).

my son is the same way! really tall torso but stumpy legs. He's 20 months, 30lbs and 32 inches.

If we get him sweat pants that fit his legs, his bum shows! Basically he's just in jammies most of the time and when we go out he's in jeans we roll up or I just get him longer shirts so you can't see his diaper. I have no suggestions really just commiseration!

haha yeah, DS started walking at 9 months... so um.. 7 months ago? Yeah, still a chunk. Well, he did thin out a little, but he still has rolls and is still pretty chunky.

yep. i've found getting BIG sizes in capri style pants can work..esp w boots.
aww..but i've gotta 2yr old girl budda belly, so i dunno if that style would work that great?
Sometimes just 2 little stitches in sweat pants rolled up can work then be taken out later...when they're taller w/o diapers.

I thought of this thread today when we put DD in her 2T snowsuit and it was so tight on her that she couldn't sit down, ahhh!!!! When are they supposed to lose the big bellies? It's oh so cute but finding clothes that fit is horrible!

Mine is 31.5 lbs and has been for a while so I know what you mean! I either buy shorts because they end up being pants or I hem them myself, it's very easy. I haven't found another solution.

I found that with sweatpants with elastic is casing in the bottom and shoes, the extra length wasn't a problem. With knit pants with a hem, hem them shorter (if you don't cut the extra length, you can take out the new hem when the legs get too short). Shorts are easier.

hanna anderssons beach pants or any of their roll-up pants work great.

My chunkster wore the beach pants rolled up one year and FINALLY is wearing them rolled down THIS year. THeir elastic is oddly magical. Never falls down and somehow doesn't leave marks as if they are too small.

And somehow their magic fabric cuffs stay cuffed

Pricier but worth it

Zutano! Some of it can get a little pricey if you buy it new but I have always been able to find stuff on ebay for cheap. DD is a chunkster - and it doesn't help that we CD - so it has always been hard to find pants to fit but Zutano is great.

I also second the Hanna Anderson recommendation.

The Children's Place clothes seem to fit my chunky butt DD the best. They are still a bit long on her since she has short legs but at least I can fit her bottom and chunky legs in their pants. They cut their clothes much wider (even their jeans) than anywhere else I have found. Old Navy and Gap, as cute as their stuff is, just DO NOT work for us.

I'm in love with the hanna wiggle pants! There's an extra panel in the bum for a big diapered baby booty. And you can flip the cuffs up if they're too long. That said, I'm totally the opposite of you! Both kids can only wear knits/fleece/sweats, and jeans dont work. Since potty training, dd can now fit into some jeans but its a battle I rarely pick. She's been so spoiled all her life by comfy roomy knits that "its too tiiiight" even if from my pov, it fits fine.
