I got a Snugli as a shower gift...

Now I am debating over what I should do with it. As far as I know, this design isn't any better than the Bjorn when it comes to crotch and spine support, is it?

I would feel really bad returning it to the couple who gave it to me (my brother and his fiancee), and I don't know what I would say to them either. When I asked my friends, they said "Why don't you keep it and use it? It is always good to have more than one carrier option and the crotch support should be wide enough when the baby is small, as long as you don't use the forward facing carry."

I still have my heart set on getting an Ergo carrier, but then I'll need the infant insert for when the baby is small. Or could I use the Snugli until the baby gets big enough for the Ergo?

What should I do?

I'd return it (they're sold many places) & then put the money towards the ergo you want. Let your brother know that you felt this one fit you better.

Don't I need to get the receipt for that?

Depending on the store you don't need a receipt. Without a receipt they will usually issue store credit.

I would take it to target to see if they will take it back, some targets sell moby wraps that you could exchange it for. I have a moby and an ergo and you could use an ergo with a blanket instead of the infant insert but a moby would be much nicer for a newborn. I didn't get the infant insert for my ergo because the baby would be in sideways and I didn't feel I would have been comfortable walking around with him like that. I like that with the moby the baby is up next to your heart, it's very womb-like when the baby is tiny and their legs are still all tucked up and don't have to be through the fabric with it between their legs, they're just balled up with stretchy fabric all around them.

Depending on where you're located, you might be able to get something different. The ToySRUs in Dartmouth (at MicMac) may carry the Ergo. At the very least, they may have BabyTrekkers. I'd try to return it there and use the store credit (most issue store credit if you don't have a reciept) towards a better carrier.

I had a snuggli. I hated it. Even a Bjorn is better than a snuggli.

Good luck!

Babies R Us is really good about allowing returned items without a receipt, especially if you have a registry with them. Even if you can only get store credit, there is bound to be something you can use it on there.

Target is pretty horrible about returns without a receipt.

Walmart is pretty good about no-reciept returns but I'm pretty sure you won't find anything useful in terms of baby carriers (better than a snugli that is)there. No Target in Canada, so that's out.

After I posted here, my best friend sent me a gift certificate to get an Ergo online, so it has been ordered now and I am very excited! Now I just have to figure out what to do with the Snugli. Thanks for the store suggestions! I hope to get a chance to check out Toys R Us or Walmart next week. Store credit would be fine.

Just FYI, the new Heart2Heart inserts from Ergo allow the baby to be vertical. I didn't get the old one either but I really like the look of these.

We have an Ergo and love it! So I read your headline and I totally thought a Snugli was one of those blankets with the arm holes in it... and thought "Huh, thats kind of an odd shower gift!"

I'd probably return it, use the store credit for diapers, and put other resources towards and ergo or whatever. If that bothers you, you could always regift it - although to who I don't know. Your DH's co-worker that you don't know ?
