Is it hard to install a dishwasher?

Is this a DIY job, or do you need to have an installer?

My dishwasher has totally bit the big one. It has multiple issues and I have been doing dishes by hand for weeks.

I am debating between buying a new lower end model from a store that includes installation, or if I should just get something off of kijiji instead. We have white appliances, and there are a lot of dishwashers for sale just because people are "upgrading" to stainless. But then we have to figure out how to install the thing. If I have to pay for that too, it might be better off to just go with a new low-end one, that I at least know will work and has a warranty.

My DF is a self-described "un-handyman". He is not afraid to get dirty, but needs detailed instruction. Is this something we would be able to tackle together?

It isnt that hard honestly as long as you have the room to put it in. Just have to hook up water lines.

Yep, we have an existing useless one. So just old one out, and new one it.

What about the electrical components??

It's easy, I think. I don't want to sound disrespectful of my dh, because he is a WONDERFUL man and an incredible husband and father. However, he is a computer science professor and is not handy AT ALL and he was able to take out the old one and put in a new. If he could do it, anyone can.

Well, you'll want to kill the juice while replacing it. Other than that, it's just simple positive, negative, ground. Nothing complicated. We were joking about the manual when we installed ours a week ago. It said "Connect the positive wire to the positive mount, the negative wire to the negative mount and the ground to the ground mount." Duh!!

DF is a systems administrator, so it sounds like they are cut from the same cloth. This gives me hope!

My dad is super handy and he did his in just a few minutes last Friday. I found out last night that my super UNhandy neighbors did theirs a couple years ago themselves. They tend to contract out every installation, so I found that very interesting.

its much easier to install a new one than a used one, and there is no real way of making sure what you are getting works until you install it if you go used.
i would say, you dont have to pay for install if you buy a new one, but i really wouldnt personally go with used on a dishwasher. i buy second hand for almost everything, but you really want that warantee that comes with large appliances.
