Weird rash following a cold

My 16 month old just got over a cold and tonight I noticed a rash when she was in the bath....it was on her elbows and on her back...sort of seemed to curve to her front a bit...and she seemed a little uncomfotable when I poured water over that area...the rash was also on the back of her legs...upper back of the leg...she has a bit of a diaper rash as well. Last monday she had a high fever 103.3 and then had a cold all week. She is getting a molar in and also has red flushed cheeks. When I pressed on her elbow the rash did blanch but then went right back to being red again. The rash on her elbows looked slightly like broken blood vessels. What does this sound like??

It may be roseola. A rash appears after a high fever. The rash phase is often paired with crankiness. It will disappear within a few days. It's not harmful, just a childhood illness.

I second the Roseola idea.

Sure sounds like a virus of some sort.

Could be Fifth's too. Although that usually shows up on the face first and most prominently.

OK. I just reread your post.

Definitely sounds like Fifth's with the bright red cheeks going on. Fifth's is also called Slapped Cheek Disease. The rash tends to start on the face and work its way down gradually.

Nothing to worry about. Just hydrate and keep LO comfy!

We had the same thing awhile back. While baby was sick, pedi was really worried. fever 104.5 and very lethargic. but then the day the rash appeared, the pedi looked at it and said, "i am not worried at all. it is viral. once the rash appears, they get better. nothing to worry about".

i swear that after she got over it, her immune system was STRONG.

hope this is the case for you.

I third the Roseola option, it has a distinct set of symptoms and it sounds just like it (Google it) although the nurse told me roseola rash is mostly on the torso.

I recently also thought my son had fifths disease-again, a rash after a temp/cold but he never got the whole 'slapped cheek' look, so im not sure that it was-probably good as im pregnant, although im pretty sure id be immune by now.
