Idiot's Guide to Being an Amazon Affiliate

Is there one? I'd like to do some linking from my blog. I actually thought I was already doing it, but apparently I wasn't.

Are you having trouble creating the links? If you are logged into your account you can go to the page of whatever you want to link and you should see a toolbar across the top of it. Click on the 'Link to this Page' and a page will pop up. Once you customize it you copy and paste the link on to your website wherever you want it.

There are other ways with widgets and stuff too if you are interested. Or you can make your own little 'store'.

I was bummed to find out that Amazon doesn't support secure images (which all of mine are). So, I couldn't download any of my product feeds. I was bummed!

How are you trying to link?

Are you using the gray bar at the top of the page? It says 'link to this page'.

I will say I have now done the affiliate thing and sold some things on Amazon and for all that they have great customer service, I think it's kind of hard to do business with them. Information is not easy to find.

I'm not exactly sure what I'm trying to do. On my blog (the link is in my signature) I would like to be able to link to books in the sidebar. Beyond that, I'm open to suggestions on how I can incorporate Amazon affiliate links to my blog.

Thanks!

Okay for your sidebar go here https://affiliate-program.amazon.com/ and log in. Third tab is 'Widgets', then click on the 'Carousel Widget'. Search for whatever you want and add 6-10 products and following the rest of the steps. The copy and paste to code into your side bar. That would be the easiest way to get products up there.

If you want to link directly to a product, just go on to any amazon page and you will see a grey bar across the top. You probably need to be logged in to see it. Click on 'Link to this Page' and a pop-up will come up. If you want it as a text link click on 'Text Only' and then copy and paste the code into your site. You will need to be in HTML mode on your site for it to work, otherwise it will come out looking like gibberish.
