Anyone used Hypnobabies for other kinds of pain (not birth?)

Please forgive me for being a little off-topic in this section, but I thought this would be the best place to find others who have used hypnobabies. Have you ever used the program for non-childbirth related pain? I have chronic back pain, and wonder if hypnobabies would be worth it for those days when I can't really function. Would this be a reasonable thing to try? I'm kind of out of other options besides pain meds and I really don't want to go down that road.

I have used self hypnosis (I used to see a hypnotherapist for TMJ disorder and then used Hypnobabies for my births) for my chronic knee pain flair ups, TMJ disorder, and also headaches. It is a wonderful tool for any time you need some peace and relaxation too.

Agreed, very much agreed! Deep relaxation/self-hypnosis is among the best of natural methods to aid with pain relief of all kinds.

I used Hypnobabies for birth and now I use guided imagery for other pain. Kaiser Permanente has several guided imageries from "Health Journeys" for free download on their website. I use the finger drop technique to augment the relaxation from the imagery. Monday morning I woke up with the most amazing migraine and I hadit managable in 15 minutes with the "Ease Pain" track.

I also use the relaxation techniques to help me get to sleep.

I used the Hypbirth method for both pregnancies and births, plus for dental work after my second baby. The dentist was skeptical, but willing to let me suffer. He was so blown away that he came back in afterwards, pointed at my portable cd player and said, "That was amazing! I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't had seen it myself." I was able to co-operate, e.g. turn my head or bite down, but was as sedated as his general anesthesia patients. My recovery time was immensely better as well. I will never use medical anesthesia outside of life-threatening emergenices, after this experience.

I started reading about hypnobirth at my midwife's suggestion and was in utter shock when I realised that was how I had been dealing with asthma for years.
I can't take conventional meds for it....like the Beatles said in the yellow submarine "it's all in your mind".

I use it for my migraines, and several weeks ago I used it during a gallstone attack.

Yes - and frequently. I had pelvic surgery done about three years ago and used it for the recovery time period (I was nursing & didn't want to take a bunch of prescription meds for pain relief). I find myself using the same principles when I find myself in residual pain from the surgery (which unfortunately will be a lifelong companion) or when I have a headache, etc.

The mind is a mighty powerful tool and when trained correctly, can be of great assistance to you.

well I haven't used it for labor yet but I've been using it a lot for hip pain lately and it definitly makes me more confident in using it for birth bc I feel like it really helps.

During my first pregnancy I used it when I sliced my finger open with a broken glass and needed 6 stitches. I still use it for any moment where I am either physically or emotionally out of my comfort zone.

I received hypnotherapy for chronic leg pain many years ago (8?). It was helpful but the pain was constant and I couldn't keep the effects going constantly. I think it's definitely worth a try.

i used it during pregnancy for nerve pain, and it worked well.

I also used it during a pelvic exam. they usually frighten me and are quite painful, but the one I used the hypnobabies techniques with I was very calm and peaceful and I don't recall feeling much at all.
