Toy applesauce???

So my toddler told Santa that she wanted "toy grapes" and "toy cookies" in her stocking. No problem; I was making her some felt food anyway, so I just made sure to include these. This morning, she told me that she also wanted "Toy applesauce in stocking." Hmmm................ Toy applesauce???? Help me out here! The only thing I can think of is to clean out a single-serve applesauce container and fill it with that loose polyester filling I've been using for the inside of the fruits... That seems pretty lame. Can anyone think of anything better on short notice?

My kids like to play with the empty containers as their pretend food, they don't have to have something inside of them. Just yesterday ds wanted me to empty out the hot cocoa container so he and dd could make pretend hot chocolate for themselves. I just washed it out and handed it over. I would probably get a small plastic Musselman's applesauce jar, empty it and wash it out. They have a nice shaped bottle with handle that would be easy for the kids to grasp, and big pictures of apples on the label.

You could use tan fabric in a shape that filled the single-serve container, then slip that into the plastic. Things with containers are difficult, I think. I would use plastic canvas to form a small cylinder (with a lid), then put the tan cylinder inside it. I would do a felt apple picture on the lid of the plastic canvas to identify the contents.

But, if you don't have time for all that, then I would go with the pp's suggestion.

Please don't use loose polyfil! It's not safe as the petroleum resin fibers could be inhaled or swallowed. If you want to use a stuffing in this manner, use wool batting or roving.

Thank you guys! This is all very helpful. I just bought a plastic jar at the grocery store, but might try a much-less-ambitious christmas-eve version of this if I have time. I like the idea of just putting an apple on the lid.

Maybe with a flip-top lid.

How about a bit of spongy foam carved to fit in an empty apple sauce cup? Put an apple on the lid, and there ya go.
