Hot pads..oven mits.. am I missing something here?

So minor issue here.... hoping I might get any additional ideas.

Hot pads, over mits, whatever... they all seem so bulky and that I don't have a firm secure grip on the items I am pulling from the oven.

They are your basic square/ slight retangle hot pads.... oven mits seem even more bulky.

I get them dirty, stained, they live in the washing machine. I don't seem to be able to store them appropriately either.
I had them in a drawer that was close to the oven, now they are on a little magnetic hook thing on the oven side.

They do not add anything to the decor, they just are nasty stained bulky things that live on the oven.

I did buy a few of those little sleeves for my cast iron pans, they slide on the handle .... love them. I hot glued some small magnets to the back and they are sleek and almost unnoticeable stuck to the side of the oven, so they don't bother me, and it's way better already. But I still need a hot pad/ oven mit of some sort for dishes, etc.

So do you have a better solution? Any advice?

TIA

I love my OveGlove. Well, actually, mine is a generic version.

My only complaint is that it doesn't work nearly as well if it gets wet (I mean while it's wet, it's fine once it dries), so that's something to watch out for.

i have a flat silicone square which i use to grab things from the oven. if i need to use two hands, i use the silicone thing in one hand and a kitchen towel in the other hand. obviously, i try to mostly use the silicone thing and use the "towel hand" for balance, not to really tightly grab a 400* baking dish. the silicone thing is awesome because i wash it with my dishes.

I love my oven mitts. I use the one piece two handed kind, like the first picture on this page. That isn't the exact one I have, I was just trying to google an image and it was the closest I could come up with.

My DF brought one into our relationship with him, and at first I thought it would be really awkward, but it isn't at all. I much prefer them to a regular oven mitt, and I haven't burnt myself yet. My MIL recently sewed me a new one, and embrodered pretty designs on it with her serger.

It is supposed to just hang over the door to my oven. I say "supposed to" because my 17mo always comes along and filches it.

Normally I find that I don't have to wash them as often as a regular mitt because I am less likely to stick it right in the food. But mine does end up in the wash pretty frequently because the kid drags it around and it gets covered in dog hair. Blech!

Be careful using tea towels. Members of my family have lit them on fire so many times getting turkeys out of the oven at Christmas that we now refer to it as the "traditional lighting of the tea towel." Not exactly a tradition you want to pass along!!

I got mine from williams sonoma and LOVE THEM.

$7.00 is money well spent IMO.

Interesting thread. I personally have never had a problem with this stuff, but dp for some reason keeps tossing the oven mitts in the sink and they get wet and yucky. Irritating. I find new ones all the time at thrift stores (most are holiday themed- I have a feeling people just don't want to store stuff) so mine never get too gross just based off pure quantity.

I like my Ove glove too. I only have one, so sometimes I have to use a chintz old "decorative" oven mitt on my other hand. I can't tell you the number of times I've nearly burnt myself with the regular mitt on one hand while the Ove-gloved-hand is perfectly fine. As the PP said though, don't get it wet or damp because it won't work well until it's dry again.
