New Couch to 5K thread?

Anyone interested? The other one seems to have died.

I'm stuck on week 2 day 3. I tried to do week 3 day 1 and although I did finish it I had to slow my speed way down (4.5 mph) and I felt a bit sick afterward. I went back and did week 2 day 3 again and I still don't feel like I'm ready so I'm going to do it again today.

I found a 5K to run that is in mid-Feb but I think I'll need to back out of it now. Mostly it's because it's a 4 hr drive away and some other things came up that I don't think I'll be able to make it but secondly it's at a higher elevation and that worries me a bit. It's higher enough that my car acts all funny when driving there - it's about 1,000 ft higher than where I live.

I'll join. I want to start C25K (probably tomorrow).

I'll join. I am hoping to start up next week. I actually got about half way through a couple of years ago and then let life get in the way and quit.

Shelsi- There were weeks when I had to repeat instead of move on and it is just fine! I figure that as long as I keep at it I am making progress.

Well I finally did week 3 day 1 and actually got through it without feeling like I was going to die! I was so proud of myself but the next day everyone got sick and now I'm dealing with a terrible cold and AF is about to start. I'm trying not to let it get in my way but I'm thinking I may just take it down a notch and do the week 2 run while I'm sick. I'm so glad I got a treadmill for my birthday, now I can run with a box of tissues next to me lol.

We all have colds here too and I feel awful. That is why I plan to start next week and not today. I hope you feel better soon!

Subbing. I finished the C25K a couple of weeks ago, but am happy to stick around for motivational purposes.

Well despite still feeling sick I went ahead and did week 3 day 3 today. I'm definitely not ready to move on yet though. I still feel like I'm ready to die at the end of those 3 minutes, especially the second 3 minute run. I've got AF this week too and I know it goes against general advice but I feel so much worse and get terrible cramps when I exercise during AF. So I think I'll just repeat week 3 and move on to week 4 next week.

AF is here too, she really gets around.

I still haven't started day 1, but my mom said she'd watch the kids after she gets off work so I can run.

So I made it out on the road today and it felt great. I've been doing the 30-day shred for the past month so I'm not exactly starting from the couch. I'm using the podcast and the music was good for running.

There's a 5k in my area in March that I'm considering signing up for. I'm going to see how my progress goes through January before I commit though.

What week will you be on if you do the one in March? Or will you be done if you follow the schedule?

I was going to sign up for one in February that would have been exactly 1 week after I completed it. Honestly I'm glad now I didn't because I've had to repeat a few days here and there. I'm finding that I really need to run each week 4-5 times before I'm ready to move on. So, for example, week 2 is all the same and instead of doing it 3 times and then moving to week 3 I had to do it 4 times before I was comfortable.

AlywaysByMySide: have you lost any weight or firmed up? If so when did you start to notice?

I'm not really doing this to lose weight but I could definitely stand to firm up a bit and lose maybe 15 lbs. I'm starting my 4th week and I haven't seen any changes yet which is kind of a bummer.

The race in March will be in week 12 or something. So I'm thinking I'll be ready even if I repeat some weeks.

I didn't lose weight until right at the very end. Then I took Thanksgiving weekend off, ate like a pig, and somehow managed to drop 10 pounds. I wonder if my body just enjoyed the break.

I DID, however, drop a pants size somewhere in the middle of it. And I definitely notice the difference in my legs (I'm starting to get muscle definition, hidden under my thigh fat!), and in my abs (ironically, I 'feel the burn' more in my abs than I do in my legs lately. I don't do any ab-specific work, but the running itself is definitely doing something to my abs.)

I am now in training to run a half marathon at the end of February, and haven't lost much weight/seen a difference in sizing in moving from the C25K to running 4-6 miles at a stretch right now. I'm thinking it's more my eating than anything else...running all that way makes me SO hungry!

Mind if I join in? I'm planning to start C25K this week. My goal is to run a 5K race in April. I am really out of shape now...

How is it going for everyone?
I'm joining. I tried it a couple of years ago, but dropped out d/t a back injury. But I AM getting in shape this year!!!!

It's unbelievably cold and icy here.....where do you run if it's icy outside and you don't belong to a gym with a track???
I started week 2, not too bad but I was definitely feeling it.
I don't have any advice on the ice problem. San Diego rarely gets icy.

Mind if I join? I'm just getting back into running after a couple of pregnancy hiatuses and random injuries.

I think this is my best starting point as I haven't been running for almost a year now. The downside is I'm in WI and its freezing here. Today a balmy 18 degrees with a WC bringing it down to 4. I have my old winter gear from Seattle, but any recommendations for layering comfortably in this chilly weather as I love running outside.

Looking forward to running with all you gals in 2010!

Luckily for me I got tons of birthday money right around the time I started this program so I went ahead and bought a treadmill. I'll run outside when it's nice out but I have no desire for it in the cold weather. Plus dh is gone all day and I don't want to do the jogging stroller thing so this way I can still run during the day.

I am perpetually stuck on week 3. I can do week 3 but the last 3 minute run just kills me and there's no way I can move up to week 4 and do the 5 minute run. I'm not sure if I should move to week 4 and just do as well as I can or if I should keep doing week 3.

I would love to join! I haven't started this program yet but plan to start this week as my DH is going to buy a treadmill for us in the next few days. I have about 50 lbs to lose so I am doing this for weight loss and also to get toned and get in shape. I can't wait to start. I used to be really good at running before I had kids and gained all this weight so hopefully the weight will come off fast!

I ran W2D2 yesterday on a new route and was doing great until the back half. I forgot that road has hills.

Aw that stinks. Your post made me laugh though. I wish it was nice enough outside to run. Actually today was gorgeous - 60 degrees and sunny - but dh was at work so I still had to run on my treadmill. I'm glad I didn't wait for dh to get home because a cold front came through about 15 mins after he got home and now it's like 30 degrees with 40 mph winds!

I went ahead and did W4D1 today even though I didn't feel totally ready. I ran slower than I usually do and did OK until the last 5 minutes. For that one I ran 3 mins, walked 30 seconds, and then did the last 1.5 mins running. I think I would have done better if running on the treadmill wasn't so boring.

For those using treadmills: what speed are you walking and running? What incline are you using?
