Getting out of the house

I'm 2 weeks PP today and desperately need to get out of the house. I've been out for 30 minute walks, but the last one I went on, the baby (left with my mom) began screaming for boob when I was 15 minutes walk away, cried herself sick and screamed when ever I put her down for the rest of the day. I felt really bad. She's cluster feeding, so I never know when she wants boob, NOW.

It's the dead of winter here, cold outside, with snow on the ground and I am a pedestrian. I have a Moby, but little idea of how to keep her warm (she doesn't fit into my winter coat). Any suggestions of how to take her out and where to go and what to do with a 2 week old? This is my first baby and I am not even sure how to discretely BF.

I would wrap baby up in the Moby, covering all parts but her face. A tummy to tummy carry is probably the best carry for this. Make sure to tuck in those little hands and feet. And as few layers as possbile between you and baby so your body heat warms her. Hey, you could even wrap her skin to skin, then loosely layer over the top so that she has access to boob while wrapped up. The wrap will cover your girls, and no one will notice what is going on in there unless they peak inside (had that happen once). Then, zip your jacket up as far as you can, and use a blanket over the Moby if necessary.

I agree with pp. I take my little 7 weeker out in the cold all the time. I use a too big for me coat and put her next to me then the coat over both of us. Do you have a friend or relative that could lend you a coat that'll fit you both? I agree with a blanket if you need to. As for breastfeeding discretely, don't worry too much about that right now. Your only 2 weeks into this, worry about your latch, your babies comfort forget the rest of the world. Nursing in a wrap is tricky, its my third and I've only just gotten the hang of it. If it makes you more comfortable, try and be as discrete as you can but don't make it your main goal. Its just too much right now. Find a quiet spot to settle down if your out in a store or something and she needs to eat. Or find a friend IRL to help you learn about wrap nursing.

I would tend to agree with pp. Your baby will be warmer wrapped up on you than in a stroller or carseat! I'm in Wisconsin, so I'm into cold-weather wrapping too. I dress DS2 up in a couple layers of fleece, hat, etc. Wrap him up and wear a too-big jacket over us both. You can buy ponchos or coats made for babywearing, too.

Yeah, the baby/mama coats are expensive. I will try to look for a used one or maybe a used bigger coat. I think we should just tinker with her outfits and my layers and we should find something soon. We also ordered a maya wrap to see if it works better for walks than the Moby. She seems to slide down in the Moby over the course of a walk, though maybe that will change when she gets bigger than her currently 7 lbs, but this mama needs to break out now!
