Knit menstral pads?

Hey knit mamas! I have a question I am running out of my gladrags and would rather not get some more just yet. I have tons of knitting supplies and a stash of good wool yarn, I thought if I could figure out a make-shift pattern (perhaps just knit a simple garter stich and decrease/increase some wings, with a button closure?) I thought about making this out of wool and felting it slightly to make it absorbant. Whatdaya think? Is this possible? Has anyone tried this?

What is the best way to do this (instructions please ) or is there a pattern for such a thing?

TIA!

I've thought about using wool, but I wonder if it wouldn't just wick the moisture away from you and into your underwear - like wool soakers when they get compressed...

I have thought about doing this myself. But if it's made out of wool wouldn't you have to handwash it? Maybe a wool/acrylic blend would be easier to wash? Cotton and bamboo would probably be best, maybe hand sew (with yarn) some fleece to back it with? Just some ideas...........

I only found one pattern on rav for pads. It was cotton. I don't think wool be the best - would menses soak into the pad or just sit on top of it? I'm thinking maybe some cotton or bamboo for the part closest to your skin and then maybe some wool for the part next to your undies to keep your clothes dry? Update when you decide and how it works, please! I can't get the hang of my diva cup and feel guilty for throwing tampons away.

eta - if you're on rav, there is a group called "period pieces", they may have more info about this.

Bamboo yarn is very absorbent - I have no experience with pads (yet) but it is wonderful for diaper inlays, so I guess it will do just fine for pads too . Wool isn't absorbent enough, I don't think.
