After reading through the threads, I went onto Amazon.com and purchased Alfie Khon's Unconditional Parenting. Estimated time of arrival is Dec. 29th. Can't wait! Hopefully it really can help with what I'm trying to instill in the family and maybe, just maybe, our families will read it and find that there is nothing wrong with UP and positive discipline. And that there is nothing racial involved in it. (right now they believe that we're trying to be like white people and not sticking to our black roots)
I told dh when he called on his lunch and he's actually really excited because he's finding that he doesn't want to use threats to get his kids to do what he wants, he wants something more fullfilling. So we're both counting down the days until the book comes.
