8 yo still bfing

I came across this video somehow and I think it is beautiful. The mother expresses herself well and it does not seem as if the makers of the piece are judgemental. I was very pleased with it. However, the comments are unbelievable. So many ill equipped persons speaking out in ignorance of the situation. I am going to share this here, and in child led weaning. Love to all!

I saw the whole program when it was first broadcast and it really was handled very well, although the program was called "Extreme Breastfeeding", beyond that title it seemed that they put true rather than sensationalised view across.

The other stories that I remember were a woman who decided to abruptly wean twins at two, which was quite distressing. A woman who wanted to breastfeed a chinese toddler she was adopting and was still feeding her 4yr old.

I think they also featured a mum who had set up a breastfeeding support group and was being allowed to visit postpartum mums in hospital for peer support.

The term "Extreme Breatfeeding" gives me the mental picture of breatfeeding while skydiving.

I personally don't think I'd be comfortable BF a school-aged child but whatever works for each mother/child should be left up to them.

The comment about "no breastfeeding after 6 months" is just plain dumb

actually the video i think said 'nearly 8' and i recall her dd stopped bf shortly after the making of the video - so she didnt get till 8.

there is a strong possibility mine will till she is 8. dd is nearly 7 1/2. she bfs twice or thrice a week when i have her and its for ten seconds or a little bit more.

<shrug> comments dont bother me. however i will say this video has been over used.

Honestly, it irritates me that this is portrayal the public is getting of "extended breastfeeding". It is rare for a child to still be nursing from the breast at 7 or 8 years old. It happens, sure, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, but it's not the standard extended nursing relationship.

It's so much easier for the uninformed public to paint us all as "deviant freaks" if one has only the rare and "extreme" as a point of reference.
