Eggnog without the vanilla bean?

I'm making this eggnog recipe tonight (with bourbon for me, without for the kids and my poor hubby who has to go back for the midnight service, LOL!) but I don't have a vanilla bean and I'm not going out to buy one. Could I add vanilla extract instead? How much!

sure, I'd use a teaspoon. Add it after you're done heating the milk though.
